Rehearsal Dessert?

My wedding is on a Friday, so my rehearsal is on Thursday.  It's at 6:30pm. I'm thinking that most people eat dinner by then, so instead of having a rehearsal "dinner" at 7:30-8-ish, we would host a rehearsal "dessert," where we serve a couple different kinds of desserts and coffee and tea. My parents' friend's restaurant has a fantastic bread pudding that my mom is hoping can be catered, and my fiance's parents could bring cookies and/or small finger sandwiches for people that might want something like that. Thoughts?

Re: Rehearsal Dessert?

  • That would actually not work well for DH and me but this may depend on your crowd.  DH and I don't eat until around 8 at night.  If we were to be ready for a dressier event such as a RD by 6:30 then we'd be getting ready at 5:30 and the most I'd eat prior to getting out the door would be maybe a snack of nuts or cheese and crackers.   If you gave me dessert at that hour, I'd be hightailing it out of there looking for a Subway or somewhere else that would give me a bit extra.

Instead of just dessert, if you're not comforatable with dinner, what about heavy apps and dessert?  A cocktail party would be fine if you had a mix of savory and sweet.

You will definitely need more than just desserts.  A 6:30 start time for the rehearsal likely means that people will skip dinner to arrive on time after work.  You will need some heavy apps along with the finger sandwiches to make sure people are properly fed.
  • Okay, thanks for the tips! :D

  • I would probably skip dinner to make a 6:30 rehearsal. Could you add in something hardier like a make your own pasta bar and a salad to round out your dessert menu?
