Finding 'the dress' in Boston, MA

Hi all!

I was hoping to ask for advice. I'm having trouble finding any dress in my size, being 6'3" in height. And most I find are totally not my style. I want something classical and elegant, more Victorian than the 'modern' style. I don't like the backless and sleeveless look of modern dresses, but I tell the stores around here that and I get looks like I have three heads. And to make it more complicated, I'm trying to find something in a Christmas Green to go with out Christmas wedding.

My fiance is insisting I have a dress special ordered, and my mother is insisting I'll find my dress off the rack if I just 'try harder.' I feel so torn, and I don't know what to do anymore. Can anyone offer any advice? I could use some.

  • have you looked up Aria ? I think* they are a company that has different styles and fabrics and you can play around with the style

I would suggest doing as much research on-line as you can, and after finding a few designers that you like looking for the stores that carry them (usually there is a store locator link on the designer's website). That way you'll know ahead of time that they have something you are interested in. Good luck, hopefully you can find the dress you'll love!

  • Your height and color requirements for you dress point to custom made.

Or you could look for an evening gown in the color you want and have a seamstress alter it to cover up the top to your specifications.

    Either way research, research, research.

  • Hi,

I'm not sure if you would be willing to travel outside of Boston but I had a great experience at Madeleine's Daughter in Portsmouth, NH.  They have a large selection and it might be worth calling to see if they have anything that you might like. I worked with Sadie and she was terrific.

    Good luck!
