Zipcodes in Mail Merge Help!

OK, so I'm trying to get my mail merge all set up for the STDs, but I can't figure out how to get the Zip Code to have a full 5 digits if it has a "0" in the front. When I transfer them from Excel to Word for a mail merge, they chop off the "0" so the zip code now says "1923" instead of "01923". Any idea on how to correct this?!

A year ago when I was helping my sister with her STD and invitations we somehow figured it out and I feel like it was something easy! But now neither of us remember how to do it!
Any idea?!
Thanks!

    I had the same problem:
    -highlight the whole column
-go to top of the screen and click on "format" then "cells"
-Choose "general"--it is probably set on a number setting which is why it is doing that.

    Hope this helps

I was trying "Special" and then "Zip Code" and then I tried "Custom" and selected "00000" and nothing was working.

I'll try General and see what happens! Thanks

    I would:

    1) Right click the zip code cells
    2) Select "Format" cells
    3) Under "Number" tab, select "Text"

You will have to retype the zip codes that start with "0" but it should work.

You should preface each cell with an apostrophe.  (ie '01251)

Thank you girls for all your help!
General didn't work but once I selected Text and re-typed the zips it worked!
Woohoooo you have no idea- I spent like 3 hrs on this issue the past few days. So glad it's done haha.
