How Early Can You Send Out Save-The-Dates?

Hi all you Knotties!! My fiance and I just put our first down payment on our reception/ceremony location. We were going to get married next year, but decided to push it back to 2014. Now we want to get married in peak season-so we can have a gorgeous outdoor ceremony. Well with getting married in peak season we risk paying more for a Saturday wedding. So we decided that we are going to have a Friday evening wedding-just so we can save on money (since we are paying for it by ourselves).

Now, of course I have a million and one things running through my head. I was just wondering how early is too early to send out save the dates? I have a lot of my family members from out of town-I know they would come in with advance notice. If any of you have any insite or experenced the same thing please let me know your advise or ideas. I would appreciate it greatly Embarassed

Thanks,
Jenn

Re: How Early Can You Send Out Save-The-Dates?

  • One year is the absolute earliest, but 9 months out makes more sense.

But there's no reason you can't informally tell people 2014 now.
  • Six months.  Any more than that makes you look pretentious, like you are demanding that these people plan their entire life around your one-night wedding.
  • If most of your guests are out of town, you could get away with sending them out a tiny big earlier...  maybe 7 or 8 months.  Otherwise, 6 months at the max.  I sent mine out at the 5-month mark.
