Vendor Reviews- April 2, 2011

My husband and I got married on April 2, and I'm just finally getting a chance to write these reviews (better late than never though right?)

Ceremony- St Joseph's Church (on Tulane Ave in New Orleans)
This church is gorgeous and I'm really glad we chose it.  The only complaint I have is that the lady who was in charge of our wedding rehearsal did not do a good job.  She didn't tell us anything we were supposed to do or lead us in anyway...she just turned the rehearsal over to us and we had no clue what to do.

Reception- Southern Oaks Plantation

Southern Oaks Plantation is beautiful, and the service and food are great. My husband and I each had someone in charge of us, and our parents did too.  They gave us new drinks anytime our glasses were less than half full, and they brought us out any food we asked for.  All our guests rave over how delicious and plentiful the food was at the reception.  We did the horse and carriage, and we got the jazz band.  The were great too!  Overall, Southern Oaks was great, but I am upset about their reaction to us being late.  When we left the church, one of the limo drivers went the wrong way and we ended up having to wait on the other limo for forever and we got to Southern Oaks late.  Well I guess they thought we were late becuase we took all kinds of pictures at the church (which we didnt) and the owner of Southern Oaks was yelling and cursing out the photographer in front of our guests while they were waiting for us to come on the horse and carriage.  I think that is very unprofessional, and I was really disappointed when my guests started telling me they saw this.

Photographer- Collin Richie
Collin was great.  He is a nice guy who makes you feel comfortable while you are taking photos (and this shows through his pictures).  He has a creative photo style.  I was happy with our engagements, bridals, and the wedding photos.  I do feel like some of the wedding photos were missed though.  We have none of our exit and some photos from our reception were missing.  Overall though I liked Collin.  Here is the link to the pictures:

Videography- Your Day Production
The videographer was AMAZING.  I absolutely love our video, and I could not be happier with choosing them!!  They get everything on video, and they do not get in the way while shooting it all.  They were great! I can't say enough good things about them!  Our video is on the website:
www.yourdayproduction.info/salter.html

Hair- Trish Popovich and Aimee Berthiaume

Trish owns Style 2 Salon and Boutique, and she did all of the bridemaids' hair as well as my mother in laws' hair.  She did a great job!!  The bridemaids got side curly buns, and they all looked fabulous!! I definitely recommend Trish.  Aimee did my hair and my mother's hair.  She did a wonderful job too!! I loved the way my hair came out, and i was very satisfied with everyone's hair!!

Aimee's email: alb52087@yahoo.com

Makeup- Ashley Sievert

Ashley is awesome.  I think she is the best makeup artist around.  She makes every girl look beautiful.  I am glad I chose Ashley. Her website is
www.ashleysievert.com

Flowers- Christina O'Malley and Janet DeMarcay
The bouquets and boutineres were done by Christina O'Malley.  They were so budget friendly and I loved them!! The large arrangements, pew arrangements, and all other flowers were done by Janet DeMarcay.  I can't say enough good things about Janet.  First, her flower arrangements are beautiful and extremely budget friendly.  They were 1/3 of the price from florists.  The arrangements had hanging crystals and were on columns.  They were really beautiful.  She uses artifical flowers, but the "real touch" flowers that look and feel real.  She makes the arrangements in the colors and types of flowers you want, and she drops the arrangements off and picks them up.  She came to our Church rehearsal so she could plan where she would put the arrangements, and she was so helpful there.  The lady from the Church who was supposed to be in charge did not do anything, so Janet took charge of the rehearsal and told everyone exactly what to do.  She is amazing! She is also a wedding coordinator, and after her helping so much at the rehearsal I was wishing I had hired her as my wedding coordinator as well!

Cake- Haydel's
Our cake was awesome.  It was exactly like the picture I showed of what I wanted, it tasted delicious, and it was affordable.  It was actually the cheapest pricing I could find, and it was great!

Limos- A Regal

This limo company was aweful! They were late picking us up, they were late picking up the mothers to bring them to the church (didnt pick them up from the hotel until 5 minutes before the wedding started).  They went the wrong way when leaving the church, and we had to wait forever trying to get both limos together (even though we had police escorts so I really dont know what the deal was). Then at Southern Oaks they blocked the driveway so the carriage could not pull up so we had to wait forever on that. I do not recommend them.

wow it sounds like almost everything went just perfect. Congrats! I'm planning on using Cristina for my flowers too. Havent gotten any prices yet because she's been super busy but I've seen her work at another wedding and heard prices were great. Good heads up on the limo co. Have no clue who to use for that yet but got to start looking.

    Thanks everyone!
Ourday12-  I went through the same thing with her being really busy all the time, and I was nervous because we had not communicated much before the wedding.  But they turned out great so don't worry!
cbroekstra- make sure you tell collin all the photos you want to get beforehand.  I wanted to take some photos outside of Southern Oaks, but I didn't tell him beforehand and we did not get any.  So think of all those photos you want before the big day because the wedding goes by so fast.

I was actually glad she was quick and up front that she couldn’t get a proposal to me for awhile because of the busy season & would understand if I had to look elaswhere instead of wait. I figure if she was that devoted to her current brides that she'd potentialy loose future work it spoke to her devotion and the attention I’d get when time allows. She'd done my cousins wedding who said she was great to plan with so no nerviousness on that end. My problem is I always expect quick responces in my job but have to remind myself to be patient with all my planning because most wedding related comunications I've made seem slow to respond. One caterer, I wont be using, was actualy rude and made a point how I'd emailed them twice in 1 week. I called it a follow up, they acted like I was pushy. Guess I started planning during the worst month. I have just gotten started with plenty of research to do in all directions. Right now it’s dresses, dresses!

My parents actually live close to Christina so I got to meet her the other week pretty easily.  She is very nice but I could tell she's super busy.  Her work is very pretty and she will reply to you as soon as she can.  Just be sure to have all your info so that she can give you prices and suggestions.  She also would make suggestions for us in order to lower our prices which was great.  The ribbon for the bridesmaids' flowers, for instance, she said we should use the material from the girl's dresses when they got them altered.  It saved money and looks great!

    Good luck

Wow.  I just saw this post.  No, this isn't the photographer giving a come back.  Its Southern Oaks.  And to clarify, I did not say that we did not take any pictures at the church.  The wedding party pictures were the only pictures we took.  All other photos- parents, grandparents, etc. were taken at Southern Oaks.  You can look at the video again to verify this is true.  Its funny though that you went through all of that trouble to find that, and this is the only post you have ever made on this site...nice try but it obvious that was a vendor post!
