My fiance and I have decided to scratch our origianl plan of going to the Dominican since we just found out that we are expecting!  I still want to go to the beach so we were thinking about taking a road trip (we live in Colorado) out to California.  Any good recommendations of where we could stay on or near the beach for a reasonable price?

    If you want a beach vacation, you are talking south Cali (north Cali is not all that warm and the water is freezing). Though I haven't personally been to San Diego, I have heard wonderful things about the amazing weather there year-round and the nice beaches.

    First, congratulations!!! 

    I love the idea of going to northern California (not sure when you're planning on going) and driving through Carmel, Monterray, and Big Sur. Check out Tickle Pink Inn in Carmel...their prices obviously vary by season, but can be as low as $200/night for a gorgeous B&B on the coast. I recognize that you cannot drink wine, but even driving through Sonoma would be beautiful!
