I just used the New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau. You submit the dates and probable number of rooms and the hotels send you proposals. However, some of the bigger "brands" (Marriott, Sheraton, Ritz, The Roosevelt, The Hilton) did not send proposals, so if you want one of those you would just call the hotel and ask to speak to someone about a hotel block.

FWIW: I went with the Westin Canal Place, they sent a proposal that was in line with most of the others, but they have better parking and I've always really liked it.

I used www.hotelplanner.com and got a really good rate for the Whitney Wyndham. All the others I called directly and spoke to the sales manager.

we are using royal sonesta and prince conti. we had a hard time getting in touch with people. prince conti was the easiest by far to get in touch with and gave us 3 hotel options.

I knew which hotels we wanted to use since they were closest to our venue.  I contacted the hotels directly, and they sent quotes.

We used hotelplanner.com and then also called the other two hotels that we wanted to use directly.  Sometimes it is difficult getting in touch with people though, that's for sure. Good luck!
