October 2012 Weddings

Question..

I was stalking the September board to look at pictures.  I'm kind of a PIP whore, if I see PIP on this board those are the first ones I look at.
Anyway, I noticed a lot of girls posting about post wedding blues.  Do you think you'll have them?
Personally, I am so over planning this wedding, I can't imagine being blue about it being over.  I can't wait to have my life back.

Re: Question..

  • I have seen some posts on general boards regarding post-wedding blahs. When everything was crazy busy and I was planning daily - I wondered if the 'rush' would be gone. However, I'm in a time right now where I am coasting, not planning and think that will help the segue.

I read something this morning, and thought - we have had so many conversations where it was interjected 'and we'll be married in xxx months/weeks/days', I can't help but wonder if we will enjoy being married as much as we have enjoyed the anticipation. I know, I'm weird ;)

  • Nah. I think afterward, there'll still be so much going on in my life that not planning the wedding will just be one less stress. We're house hunting and we'll be taking our "family-moon" over Christmas break, so we'll have other things to stress/ look forward to.

Honestly, I find it a little sad that someone could get depressed afterward. That sounds like someone who put her entire life on hold for 1 day, when it should be that 1 day and everyday after it to look forward to.

  • Nope, will not miss it at all.  If anything, I'll be relieved.  I can't wait to not be distracted by stupid little things at work anymore.  I haven't done too many DIY projects, so I don't think wedding planning is taking over my life.  It is affecting my sleep though - my mind always races while I'm trying to fall asleep and lately I've been worried about wedding things.

My only post-wedding blues will be from having to leave Hawaii and go back to the real world that will likely be very chilly.
  • I can't imagine having the blues either. I've been tired of planning for months and months and just wanted to be married to the man of my dreams the entire time. I'm sure there's something to it for so many girls to feel that way, but I'm so looking forward to being married and things slowing down. I don't see how I would feel that way.

  • I think it is a real possibility. We've been planning our wedding for a long time, and once it's over, it's over. I kind of think about it being like graduating from college. You live in the world for a long time, you get used to it being a certain way, and then it's over. It can take some time to readjust.

  • FI and I actually had a conversation about that this weekend....when this whole thing is over...what will we do with ourselves....oh wait...as soon as we get back from the honeymoon it will be halloween and we will have pumpkins to carve with the kiddos...and then it will be the ultimate countdown to the holidays...and then what...the first of the year...yeah...we decided we were too busy anyway and will be greatful when its all over and it doesn't look like a wedding threw up in our house anymore...

  • I'm hoping to dive right into working on other projects such as re-financing both our homes and maybe some home improvements that I've been putting off to help ease me out of all the wedding planning craziness.  And then there are the holidays, which always get me excited and busy.  And then there is baby making... FI and I are older and want to get going on that sooner rather than later.

So I'm planning to have things that I can plan to help me get over not having wedding planning.

  • I doubt that I'll experience any of that because the holidays will be coming up right after the wedding. I'll have a little over 2 months to prepare for Christmas, so my mind will definitely be preoccupied with that.

  • I was a little worried about the post wedding blues simply because our wedding is falling a couple months after I finished my master's program to be a therapist. Because of the laws here, I couldn't really do anything until my degree posted (just did this last Friday woohoo) and then I have to wait for my intern number before I can get an internship. So I've been thankful for the wedding planning project while school was done and I wasn't working. Now that my degree has posted I can concentrate on the internship process as soon as we get back from our minimoon.

  • I thought I might be a little blue after the wedding, but with school, work and everything else right now, I think I will be happy to have one less thing on my plate.

  • I think the only thing I would miss is the excitement of having all of our friends and family together at one time. I'm really looking foward to that and might be a bit sad knowing that the gathering has come and gone. However, there's so much to look forward to in that regard - our first bunch of holidays as husband and wife, house hunting, being able to RELAX together, etc.  :)

  • Nope....I cannot wait for it to be over!  I am so sick of planning for it, finding the "right" shoes, the "right" hair, the "right" favors!
I cannot wait to start working on home renovation projects, our honeymoon, the holidays, and going back to school for Personal Trainer certification!
  • I may have a little bit of the blues, but as everybody else pointed out, the holidays are right around the corner, and on top of that I'm starting a new job when I come back from my honeymoon AND I should have my first niece or nephew before October is over, so I've got a lot of exciting things going on :)
It doesn't have to be perfect to be everything I want!
