Got our first gift in the mail today and I'm very excited! I know my FI and I should open it together but do I have to wait until the shower or the wedding to open it?

    Open it (see what it is, make sure it's not broken), write a thank you note, but do not use it until after the wedding.

    This is because you should be able to return the gift to the sender in unused condition in the (unlikely) case the wedding doesn't end up happening.
