DOC or not??

I can't decide if I need one or not...sounds like Heather at PEC is good about coordinating everything at the reception, but I'm not sure if I'll regret not having the help.  Suggestions? If you have one, who did you use? Thanks!

I am having one and she has been awesome. I am using her primarily for setting up and taking down the reception hall. I can't be in 2 places at once and I trust her completely. Her experience has been super helpful and she has a great eye and awesome suggestions.

Do you have a friend that's good w/that kind of thing? I've got this friend who every time I see her has been bugging me, "Why won't you give me anything to help with? What can I do? If I don't have anything to do the day of, I'll be mad!" I'll probably have her be my DOC. =) It will be pretty small and unfancy so I don't think that there'll be too much to do, but it will be nice to have her help for the cost of her and maybe her date's dinner.

Not really, they are bridesmaids so they will be busy.  I am kind of a hands-on gal and it's going  to drive me crazy not being able to watch and help set up the reception....specifically the dyi decorations and favors I have planned.

Can I ask who you are using Shan87 and a ballpark $$ amount?

    Thanks ladies!

I hired a DOC, and I couldn't be happier about it.  I wanted someone there day-of to stress about the details, so I don't have to.  We met with three potential DOC's and picked the one we clicked best with.  I knew it was a good choice because after our meeting, before we even officially hired her, I already felt less anxious about all the details.

We are using Deven Nelson, and she charges a flat fee of $500 for DOC, and it includes the rehearsal night as well.  Her DOC duties included more than I expected, and I'm thrilled to be working with her.

I am using Kim, she is the accountant for my Mother's company but does weddings on the side. She would do it for free but I am going to pay her $300. I am providing a all  of the decorations she is providing some of the vases.
I know $500 is very standard.

I was pretty adamant about having a DOC regardless of our reception coordinator, mostly because we're providing transportation for out OOT guests and I wanted someone I could trust to wrangle guests into the bus to the church, direct them to the bus after the ceremony, and just generally not miss any details. Like PP, after we met with our DOC for the first time, I was crazy-relieved. I am an ex-accountant and very organized/type-A, but I still think she's worth every penny. (Plus, I feel like we're old friends - she's magic, I tell you.) Not sure on her current rates (we booked under a special deal) but check her reviews on Wedding Wire. She sometimes has specials and I think she has new packages.

Ditto Beka. I'm getting married at the PEC, as well, and although I know Heather will do a great job of coordinating the reception, I wanted someone to be there the whole day and to help with set up and take down of stuff not booked through the PEC. I'm booked with Kirsten at Fab.You.Lous Events and I have nothing but raves so far.

If your budget allows for it, I'd recommend it.  I didn't have a DOC for my wedding and it got a little crazy.

My ceremony and reception are in the same place.  Mill City provided a DOC that has been wonderful. She's set up my timeline, will arrange all the deliveries and the catering coordination.  I need only to take care of decorations (which I put my sister and MIL in charge of).  She was wrapped into the cost essentially $28 an hour.  I think she has been worth it.

My thoughts exactly. I am also a PEC bride but again wanted someone I knew was going to get my vision put together for the entire day. Even just to relieve stress she has been worth it so far! I think I would be much more nervous without one. Totally worth the money IMO.

We also hired Deven Nelson, and it has been a huge stress reliever for me. She's doing so much, I can't believe how much more time me and my family are going to have to spend with each other during that last week up to the wedding. Beyond worth the money!

Also, the closer you get to your wedding day the more you realize how many DETAILS there are that add up so fast. Our DOC is helping us make sure those details are accounted for, organized and taken care of that day so that my brain doesn't have to be swimming with "but what about this?!". And on the day itself, if anything goes wrong, she's the go-to ... not me, my mom, FI, MOH, etc. It's super great. :)

Absolutely DOC!  Make sure you hire someone who has done several weddings in the past!  I've attached a link below, I would check it out.  There are awesome DOCs on here!

I'm planning to hire one, just haven't really researched who yet.  Mostly I just want to have someone who will deal with setting up the ceremony space and taking everything down afterwards, and then setting up centerpieces and keeping things moving during the reception.  All I want to do that day is get ready, get married, and have fun, not deal with logistics or labor.  I'd ask my MOH to do it, but I want her with me the entire time, since we see each other so rarely.

Thanks so much for all of your suggestions, I really appreciate and value your opinions and suggestions.  I did make an appt to meet with Elizabeth Anne next week, but will also look into your other recommendations as well :)
