FYI for brides interested in Midwest Sound

Hi ladies!

Just wanted to let you all in on the chance to get a better deal on your DJ if you're looking into Midwest Sound.

They basically operate like used car salesmen. They first quoted me $800 for the night, then "talked to their manager" and came back with $495 as their final offer. Conveniently, this was the same price as another DJ we were looking into. We contracted with the other DJ simply because they gave me their best offer first and weren't too pushy, which I really appreciate.

I notified Midwest Sound that we had chosen another DJ, and now, two weeks later, they send me a letter with the "final final" offer of $395! I wouldn't have gone with them anyway, but I find it ridiculous that they are still trying to barter after I told them I've signed a contract with someone else.

Anyway, I'm sure they're a good company, I just don't like that style of business. Thought I'd let you all know that their rates CAN go lower, just be pushy! :)

AshP12, thanks! Are you doing a Friday or Saturday wedding? I've already noticed a couple DJ vendors doing different prices for a Friday versus Saturday.

I think any DJ will try to get a higher price also. Everyone wants the best deal... and there is reasons why DJs start lower prices at first too... you pay for what you get in my opinion... Depends what they offer ect....
     I personally really like Midwest

I was offered $495 off the bat for ceremony, and all night unlimited services as well as uplighting.. so I personally loved their service. They called me and talked with me like we had been friends for years, and asked what types of music we like, what we want in a dj, and much more.
They even email me once in awhile just to see if I have any questions.

JessieMae, it's a Saturday wedding, but it's in January. I ended up going with Instant Request. We got their services at a discounted rate because they had just been voted best Twin Cities DJ in a magazine and were running a special because of it.

As I said, I know Midwest has plenty of experience and I'm sure they are fabulous to work with. I just appreciate when someone gives me their best price up front and allows me to shop around and take it or leave it without putting me under a lot of pressure. I wasn't intending to bash them as a company, just to give other girls a heads up that they can get a better deal if they play their negotiating game.

AshP, thanks again! We're leaning towards Instant Request but were told $595 for all dates besides the Saturdays in June-Oct. I wonder if the price just went up? Or how did you snag that good of a deal? :) We tried to have Instant Request price match Midwest's uplighting package too, but they wouldn't budge. For other Knotties out there, do note that Midwest doesn't include a wireless mic in their price but Instant Request does. :)

Oops, sorry Jessiemae, I typed the price wrong. We also got them for $595, unlimited for the whole night (our reception is starting at 3:00 and going until midnight, so it's pretty long). The $395 quote from Midwest only covered 6 hours and we would've needed 9, so the difference in price may have been made up in the extra hours anyway. The first time I tallked to IR, I asked if that was truly their lowest offer and they said yes, they give their best price to customers up front. Since then, I haven't heard of anyone getting them for less. That probably accounts for why they won't budge on their uplighting package. I'm not doing uplighting, so I probably won't be of much help to you with that. Good luck!
