NWR: Question about FL

I'm new to FL, and especially Brevard County...FI's birthday is in 2 weeks and we're looking to go to St. Augustine.  Has anyone been there?  Any suggestions where to go and what to do?

Good restaurants?

We're thinking of doing one of the haunted tours?

TIA

    You will love it there!
We went for a romantic weekend a few years, one of our favorite places in FL.
We went pre-wedding planning, so we had some extra $$.
If you are staying the night, there a quite a few cute hotels and if you can swing it, even bettter B&B's.  We got a couples massage in our room.
One of the highlights of our trip was a horse and carriage ride, so romantic!
I can't remember the places to eat, but I usually use Yelp to help with that.
    Have fun!

Definitely do a horse and carriage ride...they are so much fun...

We went and did the fort and went to the old jail...We also just walked around downtown and went in the shops.

If you have the chance, I suggest doing the trolley tour and going to the Fountain of Youth. They also have ghost tours, but I have never done those!

HAVE FUN! It is such an amazing city with so much history!

I lived there for 3 years while attending Flagler College.

The ghost tours are fun. Do a walking one though, not the trolley.

There is a cafe on St George Street (the main shopping/pedestrian street) called The Bunnery. YOU HAVE TO EAT THERE. Breakfast, lunch or a snack.

For dinners try A1A ale works(american), High Tide Harrys(new orleans twist), or Aculpoco (mexican). They are all on the bay, reasonably priced and very tasty.

If you keep walking on St George street (cross over the park) you'll see some stunning homes. There is a little park on the corner of St George and St Francis that was one of my favorite places there.

Consider doing the tour of Flagler College. They take you into some of the rooms you aren't allowed in. The buildings and rooms are stunning. My dorm was the second window on the 2nd floor on the right hand side when you are standing in the courtyard.

There are lovely little gems EVERYWHERE. wander around and get a little lost. If you need a good place to eat, ask a college kid.

If you want to go to the beach, go over the bridge of Lions to Anastasia State Park, you have to pay a few dollars to get in, but the beach is the nicest in the city.

PM me if you want any other specifics. Its a wonderful little city.

FI and I went there a couple of years ago and we just love it.  We stayed at the St. George Inn.  The rooms are above the shops so you are right in the middle of everything.  We went to the fort and to the Ripley's museum.

I think you guys will have a great time!

I haven't been there in a few years, but I want to go back! I remember loving Ripley's as a kid. and the last time I went, we stayed at the World Golf Resort- I believe they have a ghost tour thing there, too.

I am a reeactor . I am there the first weekend in Dec every year for the British Night Watch and the Night of LIghts.  I agree with ESO plan .lol

Theres so much to do .

Go on the walking ghost tour it is so much better and you get to actually go to the building and not just drive by it.

I stay  at the Days Inn(1300 N Ponce de Leon Blvd, US 1, St Augustine, FL 32084 )   and It was in a great location about 5 mins walking from the  city gates and its only about $60 a night. Theres alot of B&Bs there too.

Eat at the PRINCE OF WALES restuarant  ( http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g34599-d673055-Reviews-The_Prince_of_Wales-Saint_Augustine_Florida.html) .  They have Fish and Chips that are to die for.

The Florida Cracker Restuarant not bad either . There right on King George street next to Savannah Sweets , on the left side if your walking away from the Gate.

The Spansih Bakery on the right side of King George Street  is great for a grab and go quick snack and fairly cheap  ( under $5 ) . They are right across frioom the spansih Musuem . The Bakery has been run by the  smae family  for generations . I  know the guy who runs it. He is also a reeactor .

Of couse go to The Castillo De San Marcos ( the Big Fort ) .

Theres so much to see . I would just walk around and you find loads of stuff to do. They have the Potters wax musuem there to .

They also have a winery place. So if you like wine tasting and what not you can go there. San Sebastians Winery at  157 King Street, St. Augustine, FL  ( heres reviews http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=QX6&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=St+augustine+florida+savannah+sweets&fb=1&gl=us&hq=savannah+sweets&hnear=St+Augustine,+FL&cid=0,0,13479160394508643889&ei=3ByJTJHSHIWClAew_5y7Dw&sa=X&oi=local_result&ct=image&resnum=2&ved=0CCUQnwIwAQ)

If you google a few places like the one above at the bottom it will give you near by places to also check out and there reviews.
Just remember at night your in a college town . So make sure your safe. There are a few homeless people who are around . So just make sure your safe .

There is this little restaurant I always go to if I go to St. Augustine...I think it's called Mango Mango or something like that.  They have a great tilapia dish with mango salso.  yum!
