Catering fees

Hello!
I'm getting married outside of Chapel Hill and am currently searching for a caterer.  I've found one that I really like and have set up a tasting appointment.  I noticed that there is a $50 tasting fee (that will apply to your bill if you go with them as your caterer).

Is this normal?  Should I expect to see tasting fees?  I thought it seemed a little pricy.

    We had 2 tastings (also in NC) & we did not have a fee with either, I will tell you that they were both really good & we had a very hard decision to make! We are just outside of Gboro, but I used to live very close to Chapel Hill area & I loved it :)
