Wedding Dress Salon. Which do you recommend

Going to start looking for a dress and am looking for recommendations.

Re: Wedding Dress Salon. Which do you recommend

  • Russell's in Linden and request Erica. She's amazing!
  • Where are you located? I had a wonderful time at Hollywood Bridal in Kennilworth. They were warm and friendly with me, and the attemdent really zoomed into what I wanted. And they were budget friendly and include the alterations in the pricing.

  • I ended up ordering mine from "I Do I Do" in Morristown. They just called me tonight letting me know the dress is in!

They have been great to work with so far, and the salon is beautiful without feeling stuffy.

  • I had a horrible experience at Jefre Bridal on Route 22.

I purchased my gown from the Demetrios Salon in Macys located in Menlo Mall (Edison). I had an amazing experience!

  • Ditto the rec for Hollywood Bridal in Kenilworth. I purchased my dress from there and they've been really fantastic. I also love that the alterations are included (except for the bustle).

  • I'm not sure where you are located but I am in central Jersey and I went all over. My fave places: Castle Couture Elizabeth Johns Jaehee Bridal Bridal Garden I liked them all bc they had large selections Other places I went: Bijou: I only recommend if you are looking for a sparkly, beaded type of dress but they were very nice Sassy Chic: very nice owner but small selection La Belle Bridal: nice owner but the dresses looked a bit...dated Exquisite Bridal: I dont know your budget but I believe the least expensive gowns here are around 25003500 Hollywood Bridal: near my job but not my types of dresses I also went to the city: Pronovias : loved but the dresses can be bought in NJ for no tax and cheaper. They will not ship to your home like other shops in the city to avoid taxes. Kleinfeld: i really disliked this place! My consultant was rude and HORRIBLE! Wedding Atelier: good selection and nice customer service RK Bridal: I lack the patience needed for this madhouse Sposabella in Brooklyn: small but I got a custom silk tulle veil from here

  • I bought my dress at Rana Bridal in Englewood Cliffs. I'd actually seen the dress at Jae Hee but they were INCREDIBLY rude to me because my budget wasn't big enough for their liking and I'd read several horror stories about their alterations. Rana's selection isn't as big but she was able to order my dress and she is a really awesome seamstress. I lost a bit of weight between buying and my first fitting (at least 10 pounds) and she was able to fit it to my body perfectly. There isn't a weird seam or pucker or extra stitch anywhere. She takes a ton of time with fittings and her alterations really show it. I can't wait to see my bustle. Even the way she'd pinned it was stunning!
  • I just got my dress from Something Special in Wyckoff and highly recommend them. I worked with Lisa, who is one of the owners and she was very sweet and not pushy at all. I am actually going back there this weekend to look for my bridesmaid dresses. I looked at a few other places in the area, but this was by far my favorite!!!

  • I went to Kleinfeld, JaeHee and Bridals by Roma, I got my dress at Roma and they shut down a month later :-(  I then ended up at the Demetrios salon at Macys in Willowbrook because I saw online that they carried my dress and I just had to order it again...I had a better experiance there then I had at any of the other places I went to, at first I felt funny buying my wedding gown at macys, but it's really a seperate shop inside of the store and the ladies who worked there were wonderful, they also offer great sales and discounts several times a year if you ask about them.  My best friend recently got her dress at I Do I Do and they were also really great.

I got my veil from Something Special. I didn't work too intensely with them as it was just a veil, but I really liked them a lot from what I did work with them. Plus, it was the ONLY veil I found that fit what I wanted so they have a good selection for that!
  • I went to Elizabeth Johns, I do I do and Bridal Garden.  I had a really good experience at all of them  Elizabeth Johns is really nice but they didn't seem to have a huge selection of dresses.  I wound up getting my dress at Bridal Garden because they're the only place in NJ that carries Monique Lhuillier.

I also found my dress at I Do I Do in Morristown and would definitely recommend to anyone. I had such a great experience and can't wait unti my dress is in!
  • I purchased my dress at Jaehee Bridal, but also went to David's Bridal in Little Falls/Totowa, Mark Ingram Atelier in NYC, and Something Special in Wyckoff.

I had a good experience at all of them for totally different reasons.

At David's, the dresses were very affordable, and they had a large range of inexpensive dresses that were still nice. I believe some can be purchased off the rack - so if you need a dress quickly and don't have a large budget, it's a good option.

At Mark Ingram, I was able to try on really high end dresses (Peter Langner, Jenny Lee, Rivini). However, I went with my mom and we weren't really "dressed up" and I think my assistant at first didn't believe I could afford some of the gowns. It was a bit insulting...it wasn't until I named the city of where we are from that she seemed to perk up...but she was helpful and found me the dress I ultimately bought, along with some others I really considered...but I bought my final choice at Jaehee instead since it is closer (not in the city) and my assistant there was even more helpful. I can understand that the woman at Mark Ingram didn't want her time wasted, but it still put me off a bit.

At Something Social, I tried on gowns in the $1000-$2000 range (Jim Hjelm, Allure, Alvina Valenta) which were nice, but I wanted something even more "different." The woman who helped me was very friendly and pulled many dresses.

Jaehee seemed to be the perfect happy medium - very wide selection of designers and prices. I tried on dresses by Rivini, Claire Pettibone, Christos, and Paloma Blanca.

I ultimately choose a new, Spring 2013 Rivini gown. I had been to Jaehee twice - once as my first time dress shopping, and then as the final (after all the others,  and bought my dress on my 2nd visit).  When I told the woman ther what I had been looking for in a dress, she pulled many that fit my description.

    Hope this helps!

  • I ended up getting my dress at Macys Bridal in Menlo Park Mall..it was very small but I loved my consultant and had a great time! I also bought my bridesmaid and flower girl dresses from there since it was such a positive experience :)

  • I went to 2 shops in Rochester, which I won't bore you with the details on. I went to 2 NJ shops. I purchased my dress at Bijou. They have a great selection, and I don't think there's anything over $3000 there. I didn't like the dressing room set-up as much as other places because it wasn't as private. When you came out of the dressing room, you share a mirror and there are about 15 other people looking back at you. I guess I was a little spoiled from the more private experiences I had at the others stores.

I loved Something Special in Wyckoff. I really wanted to find something there. It was just such a great experience. The woman who helped me into the dresses was very nice, and after each dress, she'd pull accessories to finish it off. It was a nice intimate atmosphere. I just didn't find a dress that really spoke to me there.

Yes, I am actually going back there on Saturday to look for bridesmaid dresses. Did they give you any discounts since you ordered your dress from there? I am also looking at Bliss in Allendale for the girls.

    Thanks,
    Nicole

I loved elizabeth johns in morristown. They could not have been sweeter. I had a specific dress style in mind and I tried on A LOT. So I wouldn't say they have such a limited selection. Not as many as a larger place but they go above and beyond in customer service. Worth it to go just for that. As a side note, they allow you to take pictures of dresses. Some places do not. HTH
  • Thank you sooo much!!!  I'm in central Jersey but none of these places listed is terribly far.  It helps to give some perspective.  I appreciate your input.
  • I also loved Castle Couture! If you decide to go there I reccomend checking out other places first to figure out your style. If you go there and buy the same day they give you 10% off of everything. I went in without an appointment and Marianne told me she had an hour before her first appointment...she spent over 2 hours with me and did not rush me at all! I bought my dress that same day and now I can't wait for the fittings!
  • Also chiming in for Hollywood Bridal in Kenilworth!  They could not be more accommodating or lovely!
  • i got my dress at true love bridal in marlboro/matawan. gail is amazing and its a great spot if you are looking for casablanca bridal which i was. the shop is moving to a bigger location which will be awesome. i can wait to go back. they were helpful without being hovering or pushy
  • l'Fay Bridal in Chatham.  You get the place to yourself and the full attention of the staff (the person I worked with was awesome).  They have a range of prices and styles... but really some very beautiful and unique dresses that other stores in the area don't carry.  It was my one and only stop.  I got to pull as many dresses as I wanted to try on and found "the one" that day.  Once I decided on a dress they brought out champagne/water for a toast :)  Highly recommend!
  • I highly recommend Bijou Bridal on Route17. They were very helpful, stayed well within my price range and didn't push the sale- the attendant insisted i go home and think about it before making a decision. They were great!
