Need summer/beach wedding menu ideas!?!

I need help!  I am getting married in June in Topsail Island and I cannot come up with menu ideas.  I don't want to serve anything too heavy since it's going to be so hot outside (the reception is going to be indoors, tho).  I thought about doing something with crab cakes, but I don't know what else to serve with them.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

  • Look at the local caterers to get an idea of what they serve. I am getting married at the surf city welcome center next may (2013) and looked at blue mainsail doing mine until we decided on having a fajita bar.

  • I am also getting married on the beach. We are really tapping into the seafood thing with traditional dishes like shrimp & grits and also having local fish filet. Oysters rockefeller or a raw bar with things like stone crabs and shrimp cocktail could be good options too

Summer salads like those with mango or peaches are a good refreshing twist.

My brother had popsicles instead of wedding cake at his wedding, which could be a nice touch given the summer heat if you don't mind breaking tradition
  • You should try Middle of the Island Catering.  That's who i'm using.  They are out of Wilmington, but will travel most places with no extra cost.  They do everything and their prices are great!  We are doing the southern buffet which includes two differnt meat choices and six side choice.  We are also adding shrimp and grits and it was very cheap.  Not only is their food inexpensive, but it tastes great!  Check them out for sure.  They will make whatever you want.
