Dress order times

Do some shops keep gowns on hand? How long generally does it take if you have to order a dress? Specifically, does anyone have info on David's Bridal?

I got engaged last weekend and am getting married in April. I made an appointment at David's Bridal for Tuesday and am wondering if i am totally screwed in regards to actually getting a dress in time?

Re: Dress order times

  • Your best bet is to try to buy a sample size. I'm not sure how long DB dresses take, but they might be able to do a rush. Good luck!

  • You're not going to be able to special order a gown in that time frame.  Most designers will say that even with a rush order you can expect it to take about 3 months, but it depends.

Your best bet is going to be finding a sample or cancelled dress, but you can ask what their policies are for rush orders and what not.
  • I have heard David's bridal is quicker than others because I think they just come from a warehouse. But like PP said you most likely will have to buy a sample or a cancelled dress.

  • I'm in a similar boat with my civil ceremony dress.  I had no clue it would take so long to get it so now I have a list of all the retailers in my state that carry that line and I'm going to have to start making phone calls to see if anyone has it in a close enough size and then get it altered.  I have time on my big wedding dress, but will still have to order it much sooner than I had thought.

  • If its David's Bridal you should be okay. If they don't have the exact size you need in-stock, they should have a gazilliion other stores to call and check their inventory.
  • I ordered my dress at David's Bridal and it literally took a week to come in, surprised me!

  • My cousin got her DB dress in 2 weeks.  It was not an off the rack dress so it's possible.

  • I guess you're in a tight time frame now. As far as I know, many brides get their wedding dress half year early before their big days, some even 1year early. Now you have only around 2months left, I think your best bet is to get the one which is off the rack.

    Good luck!
