I think the Knot ate your post. You should try again.

  • I think the newspaper announcement would reference both sets of parents (i.e. Jane Marie Smith, daugher of Mr. and Mrs. Steven Smith...and John Michael Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Smith...)  Surely your guests know you well enough to know that you're not related, but if you're worried about it you can reference both sets of parents on the invitation as well.

Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.
  • I wouldn't worry about the invitations since your friends and family should already know. For the newspaper announcement could you reference where you each are from (if you are from different areas)? Even if you have different parents listed you could still be cousins, which would make more sense since cousins can marry in some states but not siblings. Try asking the newspaper, maybe they've handled this issue before.

  • I knew a couple many years ago that had the same name when they got engaged and were not related.  It was Holycross.  I can understand Smith, Jones, Johnson, etc - but what are the chances of 2 people named Holycross marrying each other!

if you don't want to put your parents names in, you cna always just have your first and middle names.

  • Yes, that's unusual, but the people who matter already know that you and FI are not related.  Don't worry about anyone else.
