Ceremony Location Ideas

Hey Oregon Brides! Congrats to all! Sometimes I still feel like I'm dreaming!

That being said, where are you having your wedding ceremony? Is it the sam place as your reception?

I'll be getting married next year in July in the evening. I haven't picked a venue yet but I'd like to stay in the Portland Area. I'm not opposed to an outdoor ceremony but I have a hard time envisioning it outside in Portland. I don't want people tramping through my ceremony. Any ideas and/or suggestions you may have would be great! Thanks so much!

A budget, general idea of number of guests,  and general feel would help us narrow down suggestions.  How much are you looking to spend and what would you expect that number to include?  Venue only, venue plus chairs and tables, all inclusive?  There are tons of great outdoor sites that would not allow people to be "tramping through" your ceremony, but you certainly don't have to do outdoor.

I would check out McMenamins Edgefield or even McMenamins Kennedy School, or Lakeside Gardens.

There are so many places to pick from in this area. We got married at Timberline Lodge, absolutely beautiful, it was a winter wedding though but summer weddings up there are just as pretty. Check out Bridal Veils Lake for another outdoor venue. I think the World Foresty Center looks pretty cool for an inside venue.

We are having our ceremony at Cathedral Park under the St. Johns Bridge in September.. There isn't typically a ton of traffic in the field we are using plus we got permits from the city to utilize the location.  It was relatively inexpensive.

My overall budget is around $10,000 for the wedding and I'm expecting around 100 people for my wedding. I definitly want everyone to be seated and I'm looking for ceremony location ONLY right now. Most places charge an extra $1000 bucks to have your ceremony and reception together.

McMen's will rent to you, but if you don't reach a food/drink minimum you pay a room rental fee and for the areas you'd use for the ceremony that's usually in the $5000 range.  If you look into that it'd actually be cheaper to have your ceremony and reception there.  Lakeside Gardens will likely be the same way.

Where are you planning your reception?  You mentioned that most places charge an additional $1000 for reception time; are you planning a reception someplace that has no fee?

Other places I'd look into for ceremony only

    The Oregon Zoo
    OMSI
    Gerding Theatre (Portland Center Stage)
    Bell Tower Chapel
    EcoTrust Building (indoor or outdoor)
    The Old Church
    First Unitarian Church
    Old Laurelhurst Church
Montgomery Park (probably better for a reception, such a cool place!)
    The Scottish Rite Center
    The Jenkins Estate

Bridal Veil Lakes is where my wedding is and we are doing ceremony and reception. They are a little spendy to rent but you have total freedom and can do pretty much anything to that space! It's beautiful

Try the West End Theater in downtown Portland. No extra fee to do both ceremony and reception there, my friend did her wedding there and it was gorgeous. Good luck!
