Hotel block- need help!

Ok. I sent out invites last week with an accommodation card listing two area hotels. We've been suggesting one over the other to anyone who asks us our opinion because it is much nicer and they've been much easier to work with. Well, today my friend calls me and told me that she tried to make reservations at the second hotel (the cheaper but not as nice one) and that the hotel is closed for rennovations the entire month of May!! Nobody ever informed me of this!!!! I blocked the rooms months ago. I am embarrassed that people are going to call and be told this. So, I'll update the website, but do you think I should also email/call/text everyone? Or should I just let them find out when they go to book? I am so frustrated right now!

Re: Hotel block- need help!

  • I would maybe start spreading by word of mouth instead of calling/emailing/texting. I think word of mouth would be better anyways since it could be faster and more details could be given that way without it getting confusing.

Sorry that happened to you. It's pretty crappy of the hotel to not even tell you!
  • That so sucks! I can't believe they didn't even let you know.

If you feel like a lot of people will try and get in touch with you and you want to head them off, I'd send an email. That's what I did when I found out the Talladega 500 was our wedding weekend and wanted to warn everyone about hotel availability.

  • That is horrible!  How unprofessional of that hotel!  I agree with PP, start spreading it my word of mouth...having both sets of parents do this might spread the word pretty quickly.  I'm so sorry you have to deal with this. :/
  • Ugh! That's terrible!

I would email or let eveyone know via word of mouth (that usually works best for us).

  • I wonder if the hotel would agree to give alternate accomodations as people call them?  I would think they should, since they didn't tell you they would be closed (what a nightmare!).

I would also try to let people know via email/phone calls.

Side vent: Room blocks have been my #1 issue, and we are having our wedding at the hotel!  It shouldn't be that difficult, really.  /vent

  • I would definitely try to let people know one way or another. I'd maybe send out a mass email, FB message, text message, something just to let people know! I can't believe the hotel wouldn't call & tell you they're closed the whole month of May. That would definitely tick me off!!

  • Terrible of the hotel.  I'd change the info on your website (letting people know why it changed) and email as many people as possible about it.  SO annoying.
