50-150 guests, $5k maybe more budget. Really need some help!

I'm on an extremely low budget and have no idea what to do. I've found a location but havent heard back about the cost. Has anyone got married at the Stockyards Station in Fort Worth? That's where I am looking at.

Re: 50-150 guests, $5k maybe more budget. Really need some help!

  • Haven't heard anything about there, but I have a 120 guest count and stayed under 5k for my food, venue, alcohol, and decorations. We are having ceremony and reception in the private rooftop room and terrace of the El Fenix restaurant in downtown Dallas. I strongly recommend going with a restaurant at smaller budgets since they provide the basics like tables/chairs/linens/flatware/servers and you usually can forgo room rental fees.

There is a girl who posted today who said she is getting married at Los Vaqueros there in Fort Worth- it seems very similar. Maybe she can chime in.

Another knottie who posts here had her reception at Maggiano's in Dallas for around the same budget I believe.

<div>Maggiano's does have menus available at different price points, but 50-150 people is kind of a big gap.  Maggiano's can probably hold about 120 max.  I have worked with both Elaine and Justin at the one at North Park.  The food was delicious and the service was great too.  They also deliver if you find a DIY venue that allows outside catering.</div>
  • I agree a restaurant reception is probably the way to go.  Joe T. Garcia's in Ft. Worth is another popular choice (although not sure of its capacity).  TK lists the Stockyards as $$ so that's probably fairly low.

I got a quote from them in 2010. They have a bunch of catering packages that were pretty affordable -- $23-25pp for a bunch of them. This is a direct quote from the email I got about their pricing -- "<font face="Arial" size="2"><span style="font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial;">All of our menu prices include rental of the facility, an on-site event manager, buffet style meal, tables & chairs, linens, centerpieces, parking passes, dance floor, stage, set-up and clean-up. Additional costs include any hosted alcohol, bartender(s), security guard, tax (8.25%) and service charge (18%).</span></font>"

I had a rough estimate for 125 guests, with hosted alcohol, that came to exactly 5k. Again that is 2010 prices and there's a lot that doesn't include (photographer, DJ, officiant, etc but I thought I'd share what info I had. Because they include the tables, chairs, centerpieces, setup and cleanup, they are pretty comparable to most restaurants.

One difference would be that most restaurants wouldn't require you to have a security guard, you probably wouldn't pay extra for the bartender, and you could maybe choose your own gratuity rather than the 18% service charge. But I don't know any of that for sure.

    Chiming in!
Los Vaqueros in the stockyards is a GREAT budget option, the garden area is beautiful and available for the ceremony and recpetion, or you can do one of the inside banquet halls for the reception. There is a minimum of 75 pp, but there isn't an actual venue charge. They charge up to a $300 set up fee depending on which space you use, as well as a $100 set up fee for the bar, and $100 set up fee for the chairs to be set up if you have the ceremony there. They have food packages as low as 8.95pp +1.95 drink charge (for soft drinks, tea, etc.)

For alcoholic drinks they have a lot of options, you can do an open bar and just pick up the tab, or a partial open bar, where you can either give guests x amount of tokens and they can pay cash for any drinks beyond that, or limit it to just beer/wine/margaritas and let them pay cash if they want any liquor/top shelf drinks.

I've only just set the date, so I haven't actually worked with them yet, but all the reviews seem great so far, and I'm really excited! If you need to be convinced at how beautiful the space is, go eat dinner about an hour before sunset, and go look out in the garden just after they've turned the lights on. (I would go on a wednesday-half price margarita day!)

    Happy planning!

    </div><div>This!!!! Very reasonable!</div>
  • I don't have anything really to add that hasn't already been said, but I'll chime in on Los Vaqueros, I'm very happy I chose them. A lot of non-restaurant spaces are out there that aren't too expensive on the surface, but when you start adding up all the charges for the rental fee, the chair and table rental fees, security, insurance, staffing etc you realize before you've even started to add up food and drink you're already spending a grand or two! Some other inexpensive options that I came across when looking were to rent space at a park, which is reasonable, but you are taking a chance on weather and on other people using the park being loud or otherwise disruptive.
  • We had put a deposit down with Stockyard Station and decided against it. They changed the pricing on us 3x and actually gave away the room we were going to use. I would go with a restuarant- this is what we ended up doing.

  • Check out the Farmers Branch Historical Museum. They charge $75 per hour, if you live there, and $75$ per hour +$1000 in catering/hotel reservations if you don't. beuatiful, too.

  • Oh yes!!! Farmers Branch is definitely a beautiful place. The chapel only holds 110, though.

  • They do offer outdoor ceremonies though. We looked into that and were going to do everything outdoors.

Sounds like you have a lot of help. I think you should go with either a restaurant or Farmers Branch Museum as someone mentioned earlier.I recently got a flyer by a company called Blissful Celebrations. The altar looks start at $1,500. You can go more extravagent if you want for more money. They have a very nice website <a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.blissfulcelebrations.com/"><u><font color="#0066cc">www.blissfulcelebrations.com</font></u></a>. I met the lady and she is flexible and very helpful. She is even willing to help me with the table decor items etc... If you go with the restaurant or Farmers Branch, it might be a great idea to have Blissful Celebrations do your decor.
