bridal shower on the same weekend as another wedding

So I live in Chicago, but my FI's family is from Hershey. His mom and sisters want to throw me a bridal shower. We have to go back and forth chicago to hershey a couple times for wedding planning stuff but for budgeting reasons we want to minimize the number of trips.

FI's cousin is getting married in June, on a saturday. Would it be awful to ask to have the shower the sunday after the wedding so that I dont have to make another trip out? Everyone would already be there for the cousins wedding and it would be easy.

Also, one of FI's sisters is in the military and is based in NY - s0 she has to fly out too...

What do you ladies think? practical? or am i stealing someone elses spotlight?

I'm going to be honest and say that I probably wouldn't come to your bridal shower. As a guest (if I were invited to both) it would be a bigger financial burden on me and I would choose a wedding over shower. Will you be up there another weekend? It doesn't have to be super close tot he wedding date. Usually long distance showers get a little more lee-way since it's far away.

I agree with PP, as a guest I might choose to skip your shower because of it... I would suggest trying to find another weekend!

My mom wanted to do this with me since we were planning a distance wedding. She wanted to do it on the Sunday of one of my friend's wedding weekend. We don't have many mutual friends so I wasn't worried about that part BUT I was worried about the fact that I would have most likely been WAY hungover. If we're in the mode of honesty haha

Is there another weekend you're coming in that they can throw it?

oh man, that's a tough situation. I really hope there is an alternate weekend for you because you deserve your own time and shouldn't get the shaft. If you put yourself in the other bride's shoes, I don't think it's entirely kosher to "share" the time either.
I really hope there is a way to work this out to everyone's benefit!
