Seating Plan

How did you guys manage this?  Are you meshing families as much as possible?   Or keeping both side of the fam separate?  BAHHHH

Re: Seating Plan

  • I actually just started this last night!  I gave my mom an initial draft and she said it was too "cliquey" She said the point of weddings is to mingle.  However, I don't want people to feel uncomfortable not knowing people at their table.  So I am interested in seeing what others have to say.  I'm pretty outgoing but personally I'd rather sit with people I knew!

  • I completely agree!  And I also wish i had started this earlier like you!

  • I sat people with people they know. I didn't want to make people uncomfortable.  I also had different size tables. I had tables of 8, 9 and 10 because it worked out that way. For example I couldn't throw 1 of my aunts off the aunt table.

[QUOTE]I had our guest list in excel and added a column for how we knew those people (my family, his family, college friends, etc) and sorted by that column. Then we shuffled people around to get the right number at each table. We made sure everyone knew someone at their table because people like to catch up with people they know. Mingling can happen away from the table.

This is exactly what we did.  And, like HobokenBride, had different numbers at different tables.  We were able to shuffle to avoid places where people shouldn't be together - lol.

  • I'm working on the seating chart right now. I started it in TK's seating chart planner but I hated the way it was formatted.

Right now I'm using Excel with one tab for all those in attendance and a second tab with each column as a table. This way I can see who is where.

Once we've got all the tables locked down then I'll go back to TK and plug it in around the dance floor so I can see what works.
  • Ok... so basically it's ok to keep families with families and friends with friends.  This is good.  I love how you guys are working on them a month out from your wedding and I have 2 weeks.  Each day I tell my children clients to make good decisions... I should take my own advice.

  • the seating chart was honestly the most difficult part for me! we had so many quests and trying to fit everyone together was a nightmare. luckily, it wound up working out - i had my mom do my family and my guy's mom do his family and then i just worked in our friends and coworkers.

This is basically what we did and it worked out fine!  No world war III over seating charts.  Check!
