INEXPENSIVE catering for an October reception

I am an older bride with a very limited budget.  I don't even know what to expect as an average cost per person, but I know that I have about 80 people and only a $600.00 budget for food.  (really :-0)

Does anyone have an recommendations, especially from the Indy westside?  Thanks so much!

Branna

Are you wanting to do dinner? Or are you open to other options like cake & punch or just finger foods? I think $600 is definitely doable if you're not serving dinner.

If you feel like you must serve dinner- try Jug's Catering. Their pricing is super low and the food is good!

This isn't on the west side, but you may want to check out Shoup's in Frankfort.  They serve EXCELLENT food, and it starts at $7.95 per person.  Here's their menu: http://www.shoupscountry.com/pdf/ShoupsMenuColor.pdf

    Good luck :)

You may even consider something like Fazoli's.  Pasta is very simple and nice.  You may also check with small local restaurants, Mom & Pop stores, that may charge you less to get into the catering business.  I'm not sure if Sahm's would be in your budget or not, but we looked at having them cater our rehearsal dinner because they were much more cost effective.  They also include all of the set up and serverware and clean-up.

I used a guy by the name of Harry Greene. For a dinner buffet, his prices start at ~$8/person. His food is wonderful and can provide a lot of things for you. (For example, he is bringing the salt and pepper shakers for us). He doesn't have a web page, but here is his e-mail:  chef8252003@yahoo.com

Pick your favorite restaurant and ask them about catering it.  Ditto on Fazolis, Olive Garden, Moe's, Qdoba, etc.  BBQ is also a pretty inexpensive thing to provide.  You could get the things you need at Sam's Club (they have pretty good BBQ that you just put in the oven) and then have a few friends be in charge of setting it out.

We did a dessert buffet for our reception and spent $100 on everything for 150 people.  We made 8 of the items ourselves and had 5 friends make other things for us.  It was a hit!

Our Wedding was July 9th, we had 150 people and we used Kroger to supply all the chicken and subs.  We ordered 100 pieces of fried chicken, 50 pieces of baked chicken, 50 pieces of boneless bbq wings, 75 pieces of original boneless wings, 50 pieces of teriyaki boneless wings, 50 pieces of buffalo boneless wings and a 6 ft sub for the kids and we only spent 250 dollars.  Plus we desiginated close family members to make a side dish.  We had potato salad, cole slaw, pasta salad, green beans and a green salad.  If you have aunts or sisters that can cook, ask them to help make something in place of a gift.  We donated all the leftovers to the local shelter.

We're serving dinner... a huge variety, appetizers and actual food.  We're on a VERY limited buget, too.  I would check out Miami Grill.  They're in Greenfield, but I think they'll deliver to the westside for catering stuff.  Our wedding is in Clayton, IN (on the westside), but we know somebody who works there...
