VB Cakes and Flowers!

Hello!

I'm on the hunt for some wedding cakes and flowers!! I read in Bridal Guide that a good way to shave some money off of your wedding cake is to ask to have them make one feeding only 75% of your guests because not everyone will really eat any and that square tiers yield more pieces regardless. Any ideas? I also am wondering if anyone has found beautiful cakes done for a low price? I have my cake topper and am looking for a natural, beach look to my wedding cake. I have an overall budget so I'm trying to figure out what I can spend for each aspect of the wedding!

As far as flowers, I'm wondering if anyone has used Norfolk Wholesale and what your experience was? It seems like a great idea so I'd just like to hear some insight into that. Also if there is anywhere else that any of ya'll have used that does great work on the lower end of the pricing scale, I'd love to hear that too!! Thank you! :)

I met with Norfolk Wholesale floral and had a wonderful experience.  The consultant actually made a small bouquet in the flowers I wanted for me to bring home.  I was going to use them, but they don't deliver after 2pm on Saturdays and unfortunately my wedding isn't until 6pm and there is no where to store the flowers until then.  I have heard NOTHING but great reviews about their work and their prices.

Flowers: I used Jeff's Flowers in NN. (Fairly certain they will deliver to VB). We had personal flowers only (bouts (6), bouquets (5), corsages (2)) and all together it was about $400. We used daisies, dahlias and peonies.

Cake: I used Creations from the Heart in Seaford (she serves the whole Hampton Roads area) and for a 3 tier cake that served 150 people with 2 flavors it was about $400 with buttercream icing. She delivers the day of and sets the whole cake up.  We had her cakes at 2 friend's weddings as well and they were all fantastic.

You can see examples of my flowers and what my cake looked like here:

I hope this helps and let me know if you have any specific questions.

We did a beachy theme cake from Custom Cake Shoppe (PIB and more info in post above).
They are wonderful and delicious.  As far as having less cake than guests, I don't suggest it.  You always want to plan for everyone to eat because if you run out, everyone will know it and it would be terrible etiquette.  What you could do is a smaller tiered cake and then a larger sheet cake.  Sheet cakes are much cheaper and will allow enough cake for your guests.

    Hello!

I too am having a "beach" wedding and I am having something a little more modern for cake. Cupcakes! They are half the price of a cake and you won't have the extra cake cutting fee. They are gormet cupcakes from Carolina Cupcakery and they will also do a tear of cake for you and hubby to be! They can go as plain or as decrative as you'd like.

I LOVE Carolina Cupcakery!  I stop by every few weeks for a pick-me-up treat.  Any bakery that offers sugar free goods that taste just like the real deal are a win in my book.
Dreama, can you ship me one after your wedding? ;)

Cake: Mrs. B (cheesecakesbymrsb@cox.net) It was the most affordable one we found and it tasted really good too. It also looked very beautiful. A lot of guests told me they usually don't like wedding cakes, but this one was delicious! She was also extremely easy to work with and dependable.

    Flowers: Frances Thrash (FrancesThrash@cox.net)
I had roses for my bouquet and my matron of honor's -- just beautiful and perfect! Frances also did the centerpieces and they looked fresh and excellent.
She was also the most affordable florist I found.
