Holding FedEx/ UPS deliveries?

This was the WR conundrum that kept me up last night ;)

Is there any way to put a hold on package delivery through UPS/ FedEx? We've asked for gifts to be sent to our house, but we will be away for about a total of 3 weeks around the wedding and I don't want anything sitting out on the porch that long.

I've tried t get in touch with both companies. FedEx has responded, but with pointless, frustrating answers- They just do not get that I have no idea where packages would be coming from, what they are, who they're from, or if anything would be coming at all. SO frustrating.

Anyone have any ideas?

    Can you have a neighbor sign for them and hang on to them until you get back?  I know both companies have that option.

    I agree with PP, is there someone that wouldn't mind swinging by each day and holding onto your packages for you?

    I've had packages held at local fedex/ups locations for me to pick up there instead of having them sent to my house (I wasn't going to be home). It was an option on the package tracking screen so I don't know how to go about it BEFORE packages are on their way so that's probably not much help.

    I was REALLY trying to avoid asking someone to do it, just because it's going to be for so long. If I absolutely have to, I think my neighbor would do it for us, but I'd really hate to ask her.

    It's good to know that it is possible to get them to hold something- I think I'll just have to make time to call them.

    You can stop your mail altogether for a period of time if you'll be out of town. I'm not sure if this includes actual packages through FedEx/UPS, but I would look into it. The family FI & I housesit for sometimes always puts their mail on hold for the time they're gone.
