Purchasing travel insurance?

Any recommendations? What are "must haves" that should be included? Do we really need the "cancel for any reason" option? Any tips are appreciated!

We are going to Negril Jamacia for 9 days and spending a total of around $5000. Thanks!

Re: Purchasing travel insurance?

  • From my personal experience, you never know what will come up.I purchased "cancel for any reason" coverage for airfare only one time because my job had me moving all over place, but if I waited last minute to book a ticket, I'd b paying $$$. I ended up having to cancel my trip and at first, I tried to work the refund the classic way, saying I was relocated. They required a ton of paperwork. So, I invoked my cancel for any reason and just got a check. The policy I had didn't give me 100% refund on the cancel for any reason waiver (75% instead), so I tried to do it the other way first. Totally not worth the hassle. It's up to you, though. Everyone's situation is different.

  • Insuremytrip.com has a comparison against different companies and make sure you do a side by side comparison and see the different options and figure out what you want. They usually charge extra for the "Cancel for Any Reason". We have never used this option and have instead gotten insurance for Weather Related and other reasons for canceling. It just depends on what you think you need.

  • YES YES YES, never leave the house without insurance, you can never expect a delay, cancellation or medical emergency and if anything happened you want to get back to the U.S. ASAP. I always use Travel Insured
