Wedding Woes

WDWWT of this?

I received a shower invitation a few weeks ago for a girl I don't know that well (marrying DH's best friend's brother, I've met her 4-5 times).  It would appear they invited every single female on the wedding invite list, I did not attend and didn't pay too much attention to the invite.  When I was cleaning up paperwork last night, I found an extra note in the shower envelope that reads as follows:

[bride] and [groom] are registered at Target and Macy's.  We will be having a "display shower."  Instead of wrapping your gift, simply attach a card and a bow and we will set up a display at the shower for all to see.

DH said I should like that because it meant a shorter time watching someone unwrap stuff, but I think it is kind of tacky.  Not to mention taking the fun out of it for the bride.

I agree that it's tacky. My mom has been invited to a few showers where they request that gifts be wrapped in clear plastic rather than wrapping paper.

Seriously, watching the gift opening sucks, but it's part of the deal.

I feel like we've seen this before on here, and the claim is that the bride hates being the center of attention and doesn't want everyone to just sit there watching her.

I do think it's tacky. I think the fun of showers is watching the bride open gifts. If you don't want a shower, don't have one at all.

I'm on the fence.  I think watching people open gifts is boring.  But this idea sounds tacky.  Maybe I just don't like showers?

Interesting.  Is it maybe in an effort to be a little green? I'm not completely opposed to the idea.

     But WTH at clear plastic?

I agree with every bit of this, except for the maybe.
