AW: My Dress

I announced awhile ago that I bought my dress but I couldn't find pictures of it. I finally did last night thanks to project wedding website.  It is La Sposa : Felina
I am making it strapless.

yes I didn't want a big train because I want to dance a lot. I am wearing a long cathedral veil for more drama.

That is a gorgeous elegant dress.  Are you going to add removable cap sleeves or a jacket?  You know that Annunciation doesn't allow any strapless dresses....

This is so pretty. Love the lace detail! You will look gorgeous =)

Is the no stapless dress rule go for all Catholic churches or just Annunciation? I am marrying at St. Mary Magdalen and they never said anything to me about no strapless...I have a strapless sweetheart gown =/ Guess I should call to make sure.

jj - as far as I know it is a rule in all catholic churches that shoulders much be covered out of respect and reverance.  I am going to either do removable cap slevese, maybe with lace from my dress since I have to have it hem anyway or get a matching balero.  Annunciation gave me a packet about that answers basically every questions about having a ceremony there including attire.  I would ask St. Mary Mags. if they have something simular they could mail you.

Annunciation said speghetti straps don't even count.  I have seen pictures of girls that wore strapless gowns but when I mentioned Jody who is the wedding director at Annunciation made it seem like the girls new the church's wishes and falt out ignored them. Not very respectful.

I do want a strapless gown though for my reception though which is why I am having it altered to a sweatheart strapless, just to fit more my personality.

jj51, I was told that one of the few churches that does allow it is Holy Family so I'm guessing that means they are not allowed at St. Mary Magdalen either.  Also, I've met a few of the priests at that church and they are pretty conservative so I'm guessing you won't be allowed to wear the strapless dress.  Call them and make sure.  There are a lot of other common rules Catholic churches share like no flower petals or rice thrown, no aisle runner, no unity candle, photography rules, music rules, etc.  You should check on all of these things before you make any plans.

Yea, see I thought that was typical with all churches but Mary Mag gave me a packet with all the rules (no rice, aisle runner, etc) and nowhere does it talk about wedding attire. I am also not using any of the St.Mary Magdalen priests. We originally were parishiners of Nativity, but we could not get married there on our wedding. Since we also go to Mary Mag on occasion, we decided to marry there since our date was available. But they are allowing us to use the old priest from Nativity who baptized my Fiance through RCIA. Thought it would be a nice touch since he knows us best.

I'll shoot the wedding coordinator for Mary Mag and e-mail tomorrow about the dress though. Want to make sure, so I can make arrangements with the seamstress doing my alterations to see if I can add removable cap sleeve. Better safe than sorry! =)

JJ, you might also want to check with your priest.  I was told that each parish has rules but it is up to the individual priest who performs your wedding as to whether or not the attire is appropriate.

    Update:

Spoke to Mary Jo @ Mary Mag and also Father Ben (our preist) about the strapless dress...they say they are not opposed and it is fine to wear whatever. However, I still do not feel okay with this personally, so I may be wearing something to cover (whether it be removable sleeves or a fux fur stole) because it is going to probably be cold when we marry in February! And out of respect...but just in case there are any other Mary Mag brides out there wondering...there are no rules to strapless dresses. I was surprised.

thank you! One my favorites parts that is hard to see is the lace pattern has swiss dots on it! I love pokadots and this makes it more fun and flirty for me.
