Church leaving

I am not sure if anything has been talked about with this before, so sorry if it has.

We are going traditional and having pictures between our ceremony and reception. We have decided to skip the receiving line and go around to each table at the reception or have on at the reception to save time for pictures. The one thing I am struggling figuring out how to incorporate is the leaving of the church. Would it be weird to just not have a leaving and do an introduction at the reception? I know it is really whatever we want, but just seeing how that would come accross!

Re: Church leaving

  • I'm thinking about a wedding I went to in 2007. It wasn't at a church but at a vineyward however- after the ceremony the bride and groom left together to go do photos privately while we made our way to the reception. They were then formally introduced at the reception as they made their grand entrance and they did a wonderful job schmoozing with all of their guests throughout the night. I didn't think it was weird at all. The pastor did tell the guests as the couple left that the couple invites everyone to enjoy the cocktail hour back at the reception and the bride and groom will be joining everyone after they get some photos done. No biggie- and it avoided the whole awkward waiting around outside the church or the dreaded receiving line. lol. (just my opinion.)

We did not do a grand exit after the ceremony.  After the WP had been escorted out the officiant made an announcement asking everybody to go to the reception immediately (in a nice/professional way).  We also had ushers letting people know to just go to the reception site.

  • like you said you can do it either way.  H and I did an exit.  Our guests exited the church while we were signing the marriage license and got all lined up, then we hopped in the 'getaway car' and drove around to the other side of the church and went back in the back door.  (if you decide to do this, make sure it's unlocked, haha).
