Marriage license...how many do I need??

Chavis and I are getting our license on Thursday and I went on the Pinellas county website to start filling out the paperwork.  At the bottom of the page they want to know how many certified copies I need...?  I'm pretty sure I need several to go thru the whole name change process, but not sure exactly how many.

Also, are they free or do you have to pay per copy?

Any help?  Thanks!

We only got 1 copy of it.  Most places you will need to go and show your license, but they won't take it.  The only thing that I can think of that you need to send it away is to have your name changed on your passport.  I plan on doing that last.

They mailed me 2 copies (from Hillsborough County). So far, they've only looked at it and given it back.

We got an extra because we needed one for FI's military file.  It's up to you.

We got two - just because we wanted to have a back up.  I have never had to give anyone ours, just show it as proof.  It was $3 for the extra (we did ours in Pinellas as well).

    We got two.
One we photocopied about 10 times so I could take several with me, and those local places that did need to keep a copy (like banks) could just take one of our photocopies.  I didn't want to be carrying around the real thing.  And I photocopied it about 10 more times to mail with the official name-change letter with original signature which was required by some credit card companies, etc.
The other one I sent away to get my passport changed.

Because we ordered both certified certificates at the same time, it only cost a few dollars more.  If we had just gotten ONE and decided LATER that we wanted a second one, it costs something like $15 because they have to look up your original, etc.

And you might want to call first and confirm the details.

The website says that you CAN pay with a credit card.  But the office we went to would not take a credit card of any kind - I don't know if that's their policy or if the credit card machine was broken.  Anyway, so FI and I had to scrounge together and see if we had enough cash on us.  That was awkward.

And the website says that you have to GIVE your SS number.  Well, the office we went to would only accept your SS number if you provided PAPERWORK with your SS number on it.  FI had his SS card in his wallet, and I had to dig through my purse to get my last paycheck stub to show.  This was awkward too.

Wow - glad I read all this!  I applied online with the paperwork to get it out of the way ( Manatee County Clerk) - they asked for SS but didn't require it on the online form BUT it mentioned you would need the number when you showed up..we will make sure we bring cash and paystubs along; although mine is "x'd" out except for the last 4 digits and god only knows where my real card is!

I am asking for 4 copies - just in case and considering we are not local.

OK, we went to the Pinellas county courthouse yesterday.  We actually had to go twice since we forgot the letter from our Pastor stating we had completed pre-marital counseling. whoops!

They did accept credit cards but charged 3.5% surcharge....nice!  Also, we didn't have to show any paperwork with our SSN's.  I ordered 3 copies JIC.

    HTH!
