Ceremony location

I have never posted before but had my first major wedding crisis yesterday that made me wonder how often these things happen...

FH and I will be having our ceremony at a public park in old town alexandria on June 12th, which is 64 days away. We applied for a permit at the parks department back in January and confirmed that everything was reserved in February. We tried to pay the fee at that time but the park people said to wait until May.

FH got a call from the park permit lady yesterday informing him that due to a clerical erorr the park was double booked and the other wedding had preference over ours as their permit paperwork was submitted first. FH is furious and convinced that this is a conspiracy. The other wedding is having their reception at a hotel we looked at who gave us the idea for using the park. That hotel had a deal where they would get the permit and rental chairs for a flat rate which would be added to the cost of the reception.

I am not freaking out and know that this will work out. We have two months to work out the logistics. The park lady told FH which other parks in the area had availablility and I am going to go look at them tomorrow. The park lady was trying to be nice and told FH that they would work with us and help direct our guests and not charge us the rental fee.

As anyone else had issues with vendors or places being double booked and how did you handle it? FH asked what time the other wedding would be to see if we could share the space but apparently the times are an hour apart and thought that was not enough time to get everything in and out for the next wedding.I

So sorry to hear that you're going through this.  We had a booking issue, but it was so early in the process that it was inconsequential. However, when it happened I was was distraught, angry, upset, etc.  The best part of the whole situation was how my FI lept into action and starting calling any place he could think of.  He even called two night clubs b/c he knew they had the space and food. LOL!  I had no interest in a night club reception, but I was elated to see how he'd try anything to find us a location.

It sounds like your FI is also working hard to help remedy the situation.  Wherever you end up, I'm sure it will be beautiful.

Are you able to change the time of your ceremony to allow for both parties?  We are having our ceremony at The Jefferson Memorial and our permit gives us 2 hrs
