Beach & Hotel

Can anyone recommend a beach location for our wedding (same sex) and a nice hotel or resort?

I feel totally lost since I've never been there and you never know what your getting when you just book blindly online

Haha! Well first thing is you need to narrow down the island.  Maybe look at any of the island city names and see if you like something?  I chose Maui because of Makena which is my little sister's name.  We're island hopping for our honeymoon though.  So I would find some place that you like.  If you're not island hopping, look for an island that you think you would love to go more.  Then you're going to narrow it down to what part of the island, then what beach.

We didn't get married on a beach, but other knotties can probably help you with suggestions for nice beach locations.  Maui and Oahu tend to be the most popular islands for weddings on this board.

If you're thinking of Maui, you might want to consider "Maui Sunseeker" in Kihei.  It's an LGBT hotel owned and operated.  Really good reviews on-line.  HTH and keep us posted!  :)

We're getting "maui'd" at Makena beach, the same place as Sarah. We researched the islands (bought both Frommers Hawaii 2011 and Hawaii Day by Day... great books) and decided on 2 islands-- Kauai and Maui. Then we tried to figure out which we'd rather get married on, and decided on Maui. When we started planning our honeymoon we decided to stay on one island and really explore the whole thing. We can only get a week off of work and we only have 5 days after the wedding to honeymoon so we decided to just stay on Maui the whole time. The Frommer's Day by Day book has really awesome breakdowns on what to do on each island if you're there a couple of days, a week, a couple of weeks, etc. It's awesome!

When we factored in time traveling from island to island we figured it'd take up most of a day and when you've only got 7 days in Hawaii you don't want any to go to waste!

I hope this helps and I know that when I was doing our research I found many officiants that do LGBT ceremonies and will do them wherever you choose :)

We had a beach wedding on Maui with 29 guests on Makena Surf 2nd beach.  Pics in bio.  We loved the location - it's pretty small and intimate, with pretty black volcano rock on either side.

We chose not to stay at a resort because we wanted a smaller more intimate feel to where we stayed.  We learned on tripadvisor about the Pineapple Inn at the border of Kihei and Wailea, and we just loved it there.  The inn is operated by Mark and Steve (a couple), and they were fantastic to us.  Their inn has four separate guestrooms each with a queen bed and its own bathroom (two up, two down) that overlook their back yard, which has a pool and hot tub and upland view of the water, plus a separate two-bedroom cottage, which has a full bathroom, kitchen and living room.  We stayed in the cottage for a week, and during 4 of these nights, our WP joined us in the 4 guestrooms - we rented the place out for this time, so we had it to ourselves, including on our wedding night.  I recommend this inn to everyone I talk to about Maui - it's awesome (pics in bio).

I would also think about your vacation style if you only plan to be on one island. What kind of things would you like to do? Golf, hiking, chilling at the beaches, I consider Maui a little more laid back and a little more artsy. Oahu has better nightlife, great shopping, tons of places to eat at all price points. Still plenty of golf on Oahu but I thought better hiking om Maui. If your surf...you are good with any of the islands Happy planning. Hard to pick a favorite.
