Unreasonable request for salad?

FI hates olives but he was the one that selected the salad option which included olives. He has since said no olives in anyone's salad but I think the salad will be kind of plain without them. I told him that olives are easily spotted and he can easily remove the olives from his salad so others can still enjoy them. He wasn't thrilled with the idea. Is this an unreasonable request on my part, to keep the olives and he can pick them out?

you could also ask your caterer to make one salad for your FI without olives.

Dude, I think all picky eater requests are unreasonable, but I'm intolerant like that. Get your caterers to make his salad without, and everyone gets what they wants!

I don't like olives either and when I pick them off I can still taste them on my salad. I agree with PPs, ask if they can make one just for him.

I can't stand olives either!!! I can see why he is requesting no salads to be made with it. Is there anything that can add to the salad to replace olives?

either skip the olives, or have a speacial salad without it for him, but seriously no one is gonna miss the olives and he shouldn't have to deal with them on his wedding day period

As someone who gags at the taste of olives, I'm on you FI's side here. Even after picking them out, you can still taste them.

What else is in the salad? Maybe we can help you find a replacement for the olives.

Hmm..good point ladies. I didn't think about the "juices" being in the salad. Thanks for the tip! We had a very limited selection for salad from the venue so he chose it since he's not the salad eater and I would've eaten any of them. The salad is very specific with corn and a chef inspired dressing. I wonder if I should ask them to make something a little more simple that would cater to more people's taste buds.

I'm going to be a little contrarian here, and say that he can just pick them off. Unless they're chopped up really small, they're easy to remove. It's just a little piece of vegetable and doesn't require a committee or a vote to make a decision about. If you can get the caterer to make one special for him without olives, go for it, but otherwise, don't give it another thought. I'm sure there are far more important details that need tending to.

We had our caterer make an entree without cheese for one guest. They'll make a salad without olives for your FI. Actually, I found that at our venue, they were VERY sure to give my husband and I whatever we wanted, which included checking on us, grabbing a drink for us so we wouldn't have to wait in line for the bar, etc. I asked for each type of cake and they brought us BOTH plates with each type of cake.

We had watermelon and goat cheese on our salad, which I thought was pretty odd, but it was really delicious and most people said they liked it. I don't think you need to poll people about how they'd feel about olives on a salad. I know a few people didn't eat our soup course because it was butternut squash soup, which not everyone likes. Oh well.

No it isn't. I am a very picky eater, but I got used to along time ago picking things out on special occassions when I didn't have complete control over the menu. I wouldn't want my guests to have a plain salad to keep me happy if I could just pick out the "gross" parts :-)

As a bride Id be pretty mad for someone to tell me to pick (the unwanted food) off my food. I shouldnt have to deal with that, neither should the groom. Its your day to eat what you want and how you want. Not a day for someone to tell you "if you dont like it pick it off"

My mom used to tell me to scrape off the mustard off my sandwich or hamburger, I HATE MUSTARD, and refuse to eat it even if scraped off cause you can still taste the crap.

Is it a Greek Salad? What type of salad is it that it comes with Olives?
To me Greek and Nicoise always have olives, so if you choose that Salad without the olives, it makes it strange! Maybe pick a whole different salad if this is the case.

I agree see if they can make HIM a salad without olives and move on. This is not worth worrying about. I am a picky eater, I'd even go so far as to say very picky, but I am an adult and I am more than able and willing to pick apart my food or even on occasion eat something I don't like if the situation justifies it.

I would be concerned about a lot of guests not eating the salads that you've paid to provide. A lot of people really hate olives (myself included - just the smell of them makes me gag. I'm not a picky eater - they're virtually the only thing I won't try) and I wouldn't touch a salad that had them. In this case, because they're juicy, picking them off does not solve the problem.

I think if you and your fiance come to an agreement about the menu, it should include foods that NOTHING has to be picked off of (hello, dinner etiquette!), since the dinner is YOUR choice. It's like going to a restaurant then ordering something you like most of, then picking off stuff... why dont' you just order something you both can eat? If the guests don't like something, it's not to worry about... if the bride and groom like it, that's what's important. I'd compromise and get a different salad altogether, and I like olives.

We're having this issue with walnuts on our salad though in our case FI is allergic. He doesn't want to deny the other guests this nut option though so we're having the caterer but them in a bowl to the side that people can choose to spoon on their salad or not.

This is the man you want to spend your life with....on the day you make that committment to him you should both enjoy yourselves....let him have no olives...why is this even worth making an issue out of? It's not like he asked if it was OK if he brings a stripper to the wedding...sheesh

Judging by the sheer amount of olive haters responding in this post, among others, I might pick a different salad if I were you, lol.

Obviously you can't please everyone, but it's usually best to avoid things that are widely considered an acquired taste, and olives do tend to fall into that category.

I still don't understand why the caterer can't make one without olives for the freaking groom....My dad's getting a special salad because he is picky and will only eat blue cheese, which is one of those dressing you either love or hate, so i didn't want to pick it for everyone...my caterer has no issue making one salad for the FOB that has blue cheese and dressing instead of feta and vinagrette.....if your caterer won't make one salad without olives, that's ridiculous
