All Inclusive Honeymoon Resorts

My fiance and I aren't getting married until 2014, but I wanted to start getting honeymoon ideas together since we have to save for it (and so I can convince him to go somewhere nice ;) )

I have a few questions...

I would like to go to an all inclusive place so we won't have to worry about many extra costs (such as food and other things). I don't even know where to start!

We're both college students so we won't have tons of money to spend. I was figuring going somewhere for maybe 3 or 4 days at the most.

Where do I begin searching? I'm not too picky on destinations since we're from Michigan. Somewhere in the Caribbean or Florida area would probably be best.

Any information is greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

Re: All Inclusive Honeymoon Resorts

  • There aren't any true all-inclusives in Florida, except for a Club Med, I believe. It would help more if you can post a budget and what time of year you plan to travel.

We loved the Riviera Maya / Playa del Carmen area of Mexico. Gorgeous beaches and really affordable luxury accomodations (we stayed at The Royal Playa del Carmen). I've also heard good things about Grand Cayman, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic.

  • If you're on such a strict budget I'd look into a cruise over an all-inclusive.  Cruises leave from New York and Baltimore so you may be able to find a quick, cheap flight to one of those ports.  Even Florida wouldn't be that much more.  3-4 day cruises can be REALLY cheap, like under $250 per person.  Food is included, although drinks are not but if you budget for them you will be able to enjoy a drink without worrying about the cost.  I'd say you can *easily* do a 3-4 day cruise for under $1000 after paying for flights, the cruise, tips, and onboard expenses.

But if your heart is really set on an all-inclusive then I think Jamaica will be your most affordable option from Michigan.  You may want to consider contacting a travel agent to see what sort of packages they can offer that fall within your budget.

I believe in a lot of things. I believe in fresh tennis balls, the healing power of bunnies, and that the novels of Susan Sontag are something I'll never read. In fact, I don't even know who Susan Sontag is. What is she... like... a painter? I believe in Crystal Lite because I believe in ME. I believe in the movies of Val Kilmer, though these days it ain't so easy. I believe in Darren Sproles, the word "dabble", the first season of "Silk Stockings", and big, warm, moist, gooey chocolate chip cookies that melt in your mouth and all over your face.

  • Mexico tends to be one of the cheapest places for All Inclusives and there is so much to do there for such a small budget. We went back in September of 2010 for about 2k and that was an upgraded resort. We preferred to go to just one location because we could experience everything they had to offer and we wouldn't feel rushed or like we missed out.

  • imo-consider doing something local or within a short drive for right after the wedding and then take a large 1st anniversary or delayed HM trip to an AI somewhere for a week or longer. it will alleviate the stress of having to pay for a vacay and you'll get much more out of it (4 days-meh-2 of them traveling so you'd only have 2 full days there-not really worth it imo).

I think you should look into some of the all-inclusives in the Riviera Maya region, as others have suggested.  I think you would be surprised at the level of luxury you can get for the $$ down there.

I agree that 3-4 days wouldn't really be worth it - but I am sure you could swing 5-6 days at an all-inclusive in a decent room for probably the same price as the cruise the previous poster mentioned ($2k or so). Where you can go is going to depend a lot on your budget. If you start saving up now, I am sure you will be able to figure out something perfect for the two of you :)
  • Domenican Republic has lots of all-inclusives and is on the less expensive side.
  • We went to Cancun in February and it was awesome.  We stayed at the Sun Palace.  It's an affordable AI.
