ok, so my bm travels alot out of the country. Her husband actaully lives in the domican republic, so I was thinking to get her something that has to do with traveling, like a thing to hold her passport (except she has one of those already). I do not trvael, so I dont know what she could use. Do any of you have any ideas?

What sort of condition is her luggage in? You might buy her a new carry-on bag or something. Or see if you can get her a gift certificate toward an airline she frequently uses, that was my wedding gift for my dad.

Passport cover from Tiffany's? Even if she already has one, this is a pretty nice upgrade. One of my MsOH is a traveler, as well, and this is currently on my mind for her.

Check out TravelSmith.com - they have items for people who travel alot. I recently purchased myself a nice padded eye mask that I use to help me sleep while on overnight flights and also bought DH and I two CoolMax travel blankets that roll up very small so we can use our own blankets on flights / and again in a hotel room if we want an extra blanket.

I wouldn't get her a bag because luggage is really personal - I know how heavy I want my suitcases to be, how many pockets, what size, etc. A friend gave me a passport cover which I don't like because the design isn't my style, but I am a label whore, so I'd use the Tiffany one (or, you know, just one in a design I liked)

Noise canceling headphones are a lifesaver, although they may be out of your budget - there are some for about $100. Otherwise you could do a few smaller things like a nice inflatable pillow, luggage locks (I'm always losing these), luggage tags, etc.

I find a lot of my travel gear at REI, so a gift certificate there might work. Or maybe barnes and nobles (or other book store) so that she can get a new travel guide. Does she have AAA membership? You can get all the free maps and guides from them if you are a member.

I travel often and I would like a really nice luggage tag, a monogramed leather travel document holder I would loooove to receive as a gift (personally I think that passport holders are worthless, you have to take the passport out to go through customs, a document holder is much more convenient).

If she mostly travels to the DR then she probably won't need a pillow or blanket depending on where you're located the flights aren't very long. Noise cancelling headphones are amazing as well as a e-book reader (if she enjoys reading) if it's in your budget.

Frequent traveler here. Travel-related gifts I've loved/used:

-Passport holder

-Neck pillow

-Noise-cancelling headphones

-Zip-up bags (i.e. duffel bags/backpacks that can be zipped into little pocket-sized pouches and easily fit in a suitcase that she can unzip and use as an additional bag--I use these ALL the time when I travel since I like to shop while abroad). Superhero- those are really nice! I might have to start thinking about one, although I like the one that zips.

Does she like movies and have an ipod? I like getting itunes gc to buy movies that I can put on my ipod.

That's a nice one. I think they're the greatest invention. Saves me extra baggage fees on at least one leg of the trip.

I want to expand my passport holder recommendation: It's more like a wallet that has a spot for the passport but also fits credit cards, different slots for different currencies, documents, etc. Mine has gone with me all over the world and I don't know what I'd do without it. I'll see if I can find a link to the sort of thing it is, but something like that that keeps your passport/docs handy next to your other essentials is good. Just don't lose it!

I'm glad I came back to read more of this...I don't even have a passport to know what sort of bells and whistles a proper holder for one should have. Did any of the seasoned travelers happen to look upon the Tiffany one I linked above and, if so, could you tell me if it sucks? I was eyeing this as the gift for one of my MsOH, but don't want to give her something which is less than super.

Mel, I think it's cute, but PPs reminded me that on the one time I did actually use the passport holder my friend got me, I had to take the passport out of it anyway. If it were cheaper I'd say go for it just for vanity's sake, but for that price I'd want to give something practical, so maybe skip it.

They are allowed on planes after you hit 10,000 feet. So other than the first and last 10 minutes or so of the flight, you can totally have DVD players. I play DVDs on my laptop all the time in flight.

The only things that are not allowed to be turned on are those that are sending out and receiving a signal, such as tv's and cell phones (unless in airplane mode). These items can interfere with pilot-tower communications.</div>

I personally like ones that double as wallets, that way I can keep the passport on me with my other valuables. I can't tell if the Tiffany one does that. <div>
</div><div>Having said that, some countries don't like passports that have dirt or water damage--one of my friends almost didn't get into Peru with us because her passport had some gunk on it. Mine has a little bit of water damage on the back cover and I got a little hassle about it once but nothing major. It never hurts to have something that protects a passport--those things aren't cheap and, again, some countries can be weird about them.</div>
