Bridesmaid Colors

I'm going to be PWing for a little while.  I'm in a mood to make decisions and I need everyone's help.  Expect another thread later asking for opinions on e-pic outfits.  I think it's the coffee I drank this morning.  I usually don't have it and my more body doesn't know what to do.  Weeeeeee!

Anyway, like I mentioned earlier, our colors include royal blue with a spectrum of neutrals.  I've always imagined that my BMs would wear royal blue, but I've recently found a few pictures of nude or tan dresses that I really liked.  I think it's unique and causes you to notice the girls and not just the dresses.  I'm just worried it won't work for all skin types?

So which do you like better?  Pics:

    I'm not a fan of nude/tan dresses.

What about grey? Someone I know had grey BM dresses that were super pretty.

I don't like the tan. Only because it will blend in with you too much. I prefer colored.

Desert, I really love grey, but it won't fit with our colors.

I think ultimately it is what you really want. They are both pretty. My personal preference would be the tan ones, but that's just me! They would both look good!

I personally, for me, would not buy a nude dress just to wear, which is why I think my immediate instinct was to not like it as a BM dress color.

That said, the more I look at the photo above....the nude is starting to grow on me. I do love the idea of a neutral BM dress. If grey won't work with your colors, and YOU love the nude, then I say go for it, Elle. :)

What if you did something like this, with each girl picking her own nude/tan/light pink dress?

I love the look, but ended up going with BMs all in a light blue. If I had had more than 3, I probably would have gone this route.

I think the nude is very pretty, but what about more of a blush, instead of a nude?

I thought about having nude dresses at the very beginning of planning, but all the girls veto-ed it...  so I had to keep looking.

is that too pink, not enough of a neutral-nude color?

I'm not really a fan of the nude dresses. I like blue. If you wanted a neutral, and gray doesn't work, maybe a bronze or brown would be pretty.

As my friend once complained in a very pale pink BM dress, "I look naked!"

I like the tan dress itself better than the blue one---but I don't really like the tan color. ...which is not helpful. It just seems washed out to me.

....and not diplomatic at all (sorry) but do you really want a row of "nude" girls in your pictures? Nude colors always require a double-take to see if clothing is missing. It just melts away into the skin and doesn't seem flattering to me.

Elle - how "royal" blue does the blue need to be?  what about a darker shade of blue, so it's not as shocking?

... or are we talking definitely royal blue?

Ha. This thread has made me realize that I'm definitely leaning toward the tan, since I can feel myself getting defensive toward all of you naysayers. Lol. The thing is, I was always worried about the naked thing, but in the pictures I've seen, I don't think the girls look naked at all, so it's changing my mind. I've pitched it to a couple of my BMs, and they're both cool with it. Like I said, I won't make anyone wear something they aren't comfortable with, so if there are major objections from the others I'll just do the blue.

Elle, I think the best thing to do is to have your BMs try on the colors your're thinking of to get an idea of what it looks like. I think it's going to be very dependent on skin tone.

Haha no reason to be sorry. Your opinion is much appreciated.

I think I just like the tan because it's not, like, in-your-face color. But I definitely need to make sure it's cool with everyone first.

I love the tan dresses Elle! There are so many other ways to incorporate your blue. Put a bright blue flower on their waist-lines, have them wear blue heels or blue chunky necklaces. (Obviously not all at the same time, but pick one). You could even make the flowers blue if you don't want them to be wearing the color.

    but blue obviously...

I actually rather like the tan shade and accenting it with blue like allusive said. I'm a fan of neutral tones and vintage styling but thats just me. I've never been a fan of the bright bridesmaid dress colors as a uniform look but definitely make sure you are happy and talk to your bridesmaids too :)

I vote nude.  Seriously, they're gorgeous.  And as one of your NEY bridesmaids (from that thread we did), clearly I have the final say.

No, but in all seriousness, I think the nude is gorgeous.  And you could do a small royal sash or something and a royal bouquet wrap for them and it would be gorgeous.  And then they can play with jewelry...and shoes.

I really like all of the pictures you posted, both blue and tan.

I like the color scheme of the tan, but I know that I personally would cringe if I was told to wear tan in a wedding. I am fairly pale, and I know I would have to go tanning or SOMETHING in order to feel comfortable. Of course, this depends on the shade as well. Also, I think tan does not hide trouble spots as well as a blue would, so I would be concerned about that as well.

My advice to you would be that if you do choose tan, you take Tiger's suggestion and let them have some choice in what kind of dress. That way, in case they are self concious about tan like me, they will feel better knowing they can get something they are comfortable in.

Either way I think they are lovely choices. And the blue and neutrals is going to make a BEAUTIFUL wedding!!

ETA: I LOVE the idea of neutral dresses with blue accents. I love it so much that if you don't end up doing that I might be sad.

Ok, I'm loving all the input.  So, once I finalize the bridal party (there are still a couple people I'm not sure about yet and haven't asked), I'll see if everyone is cool with a neutral dress.  If so, I'll ask them all to pick their own with no parameters.  A mix of shades, styles, and fabrics would be so adorable.

Then I'll get them all matching, chunky blue necklaces.  Something like this:

(of course, I'll probably end up getting Sunbird to make it).

I'm so excited about this, guys!!
