Sunday

Welcome back, TK/TN/TB.  Apparently you wanted to give us all trojans yesterday. Undecided  Certainly not helping your case, here.

Sooo tired today.  We went to TOA last night and I did not realize that Rhet Miller was the guy from Old 97s, so when we caught him at the end of his stage time, FI was noticeably disappointed.  Mat Kearney, whom I love, was sadly a bit on the boring side to watch. My allergies were going crazy so we left at 11:30.  Still had a lot of fun though, even if my eyes feel like they are swollen to the size of grapefruits this morning.  I think Taco Joint will make me feel better.  Yes, yes I think that's right.

Question for my OMHs -- when did you do your cake cutting during your reception?  I'm wondering if we should be introduced into our reception , go straight into our 1st dance, and then do our cake cutting before opening the buffet.  OR should we just come in, do the 1st dance, thank our guests, open the buffet, and then do cake cutting afterwards? Our reception is short -- 3.5 hours.  But we aren't doing any other traditional stuff -- no garter/bouquet toss, no parent dances, no toasts, etc.

Re: Sunday

  • I'm working yet again today and typically we have a few customers waiting outside for us to open. Today nothing. This could be a bad sign for a slow boring day

  • We were introduced, did our 1st Dance ate dinner and then cut cake.

  • Hi, Kathleen!  Why are you on TK when you are in HAWAII?! :P

  • Haha. It's 7:30am. H is still asleep. So I'm watching tv and piddling around on my phone. However, I'm about to go dig into our snack food, I'm hungry.

  • Our order:
    Herded guests upstairs
    Introduced B&G
    First dance (B&G)
    Father/daughter dance
Opened the buffet (H and I ate at our sweetheart table quickly from pre-prepared plates)
Did table visits while guests ate dinner
Cut the cake when the last people were finishing dinner
Opened the dance floor and ensue chaos/dancing

We just attended a wedding where they announced the B&G and they cut the cake on the walk in. Their first dance was after dinner (which lasted 2 hours, btw). I was honestly really surprised to see someone cut the cake so early in the reception.

H and I went to Blue sushi in Fort Worth last night. Soooo good. It would have been a perfect night if the dog hadn't woken me up at 3 AM wanting to go outside.
  • MarieSD -- Whoa, their dinner was 2 hours?!  That seems like a really long dinner.  Was it plated with multiple courses?  I only allowed about an hour for buffet.  I really hope we don't need to add on another hour to our reception time... another $500 down the drain. :-(

I haven't been to Blue Sushi but heard it's really good!  Glad you had a good night even though your furbaby woke you up early.

Yes, it was multiple courses and at a sloooow pace. Definitely do not add time on to match that! I was checking my phone and hitting the (cash) bar between courses. Of course, I was also sitting at a table with a bunch of male math graduate students. H talked to them about math the whole time. <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-cry.gif" border="0" alt="Cry" title="Cry" />

We also had a buffet at our reception and I think it took less than an hour. Probably closer to 45 minutes.

    Amy,
We actually had our DJ open up the buffet while we were doing the 5 minute rule (since we didnt have a cocktail hour) came immediately into our first dance and then cut the cake and ate.  We then did the two parent dances and opened the dance floor for the rest of the night with no interuptions.

I really liked this way because then people had something else to do other than just stare at us while we danced, and they could just go grab their cake and get it when they were done with dinner or whenever they wanted.

Also, regarding Blue, we had one back in Omaha and it was my absolute favorite sushi place, but I havent made it ovet to FW to try the one here.
  • Finally home from work. What a long slow and boring day. My feet hurt too.
Amy- If I remember correctly when I met with our Dj I'm pretty sure he suggested we do what bobbileighb did and cut cake right after 1st dance. One reason he suggested it is sometimes the older crowd will leave shortly after eating and this way they won't miss it.

I THINK we did cake after the parent dances, but I can't remember.  Actually, it might have been right before, and they passed cake right after toasts while we were dancing with our parents.

I got home WAY later than I intended.  And now I'm trying to get some packing done and find something to eat.  I think I'm going to give in and go out for dinner.

  • Our reception is 3.5 hours as well (closer to 3). I don't want to cut the cake until well after the buffet so that no one is digging into sweets before they should.

Soooo... Intro, 1st Dance, Buffet, Parent Dances, 20 minutes of dancing, then cake cutting.

Then again, we are having cupcakes so people grab as wanted.

We are also doing speeches (short), tosses, and a sorority thing. All in 3.5 hours. Makes me dizzy just thinking about it.

For Sunday news- started off my wedding week by cracking my phone. Ugh. As if I didn't have enough to do- now a visit to the Apple store is in order. Grrrrr.
  • Way late to this party as we spent all day yesterday finishing projects around the house as we're getting it appraised today, ugh, what a pain! Here's our order, and our reception was a little over three hours: Intro of WP Open Buffet ( we didn't eat, but walked around and talked to everyone during this time) Cake Cutting (after everyone was done eating) Toasts First Dance Father/Daughter dance Mother/Groom dance Dancing!!
