How much was your dress?

I was having dinner w/ my MOH last night and she asked what my budget for the dress would be. I told her that I really wanted to start and stay around $500 maybe ... just to have a price in mind. She told me that it's hard finding a really nice dress for $500, and that the bridal shops ask and bring out dresses to match your budget, so you should start high. I'm curious ... what did everyone buy their dress for? And was it off a rack, or ordered? Thanks!

First, I definitely agree with never trying on dresses over your budget.  If you don't find something you like, walk away and consider if you'll up your budget anywhere other than while standing in a dress store!  If after you've slept on it and looked at your entire wedding budget and you deem it doable and worth it then look at dresses in a higher price range.

My parents spent over 10k on my dress but we were very adamant about certain things.  It ended up being a custom, couture gown and I loved my dress and my parents did too.  They were the ones who really helped design the gown, it was a family creation with the designer.

My veil wasn't even $200 and it was perfect!  I loved it much more than veils the store wanted me to try on that were thousands.
  • I found mine at Davids Bridal original price $599.00, but I waited until it went on sale. Now its discontinued and I bought it for $199.00. My only problem was it was off the rack, im 5'8 and didnt realize with m 4 inch heels it would be short and alterations said they couldnt add length to the bottom. So I went to Impressions Bridal and ordered a Davinci gown that is basically the same gown for $515.00. I know that this is my "the one" gown and wasnt about to settle for less. Im just blessed that Davicnis copies Davids Bridal gowns.

Davids bridal is always having their $99 sale and other boutiques have trunk shows. You dont want to try on a gown that is out of your budget because once its your "the one" in your mind, its hard to forget!! Stick to your budget and be honest with your bridal consultant, there are plenty of beautiful gowns for $500 or under.
