Triad-area cakes??

It's my first post! Woo!

After just lurking for the last 4 months, I thought I'd put the board to good use.
Does anyone have any recommendations/experience with Triad-area bakeries for their cakes? (Specifically W-S or thereabouts).   I'm generally aware of what my options are, but I want to make sure I haven't missed anything. For personal reasons, I am trying to avoid Dewey's if at all possible.

The boy and I are planning to get all the cake tasting squared away in the next few weeks after my finals.

Gracias!

You should look into Delicious in Greensboro. They did a friend's cake and it was FANTASTIC! Not sure what kind of cake you wanted but their butter cream icing is delicious - so light and fluffy!

I've heard lots of good things about Maxie B's in Greensboro.

I do not recommend Edible Artistry in High Point.  And I wasn't very impressed when I tasted Cakes by Manfred.

Our back-up plan was to do table cakes from Maxie B's.  I wish we had done it.

:) We could.  I'm not even that big a fan of cake though.  I like pie.

I second Delicious in Greensboro. My good friend at that at their wedding and it was so good. Her husband just got a cake from there for her birthday too and they did not disappoint.

I'm using Sharon Lawrence with Glorious Cake creations.  She can make anything and best of all her cakes taste delicious!  She is a cake vendor for some area hotels as well.  I can give you her info.

My shower cake was from Maxie B's and it was good, although I thought it was a little on the dry side, but that might just be a personal taste thing.  It looked amazing though.

Our wedding cake was from Edible Artistry -- I am on the fence about my review of that vendor (I haven't done my vendor reviews yet, still waiting for some final stuff to wrap up).  The cake was AMAZING -- the most moist and delicious I have ever had (we had chocolate with hazelnut filling, and pumpkin spice).  BUT the owner is very short on business sense and is hard to deal with.  I pretty much re-wrote her contract because it was full of ridiculous clauses (she told me she copied it from a caterer); she doesn't keep track of her emails so you have to re-tell her things several times; and I told her in writing and on the phone that we wre going to serve our third tier and not save it so we didn't have to order a 4 tier cake, but she forgot and sent the third tier boxed, with a fake decorated top...luckily we had plenty of cake anyway.  So...that said, if you could handle those things, then the cake is the best I've had, but be prepared to deal with details multiple times!!

I am using Maxie B's. I have not heard one bad thing about them on here or any other review site for that matter.

Everyone is a delight and so helpful. FI and I are more than happy with our choice.

Good luck with your choice! Can't wait to hear who ya pick.

Wow, thanks y'all-- I wasn't expecting this tidal wave of replies :)

What would Maxie B's charge for delivery to W-S?
I really liked Manfred at a recent wedding, but the boy wasn't crazy about it.
We're so-so about Mrs. Pumpkin's (moreso their decorating ability rather than the cake taste) and keep hearing conflicting information about Ketchie Creek.

I'm from Raleigh, but I went to an event in W-S last night and they were serving cake from Ganache in Greensboro.  Two types, one chocolate with a white frosting and the other was a carrot cake.  Large crowd that devoured them both.  I went for the chocolate and it was amazing.  No clue how they would do a wedding cake, obviously, but the event hosts gave them a nice shout out.

</div><div>I'm in Winston-Salem too! I tasted a Mrs. Pumpkins cake that was delicious but don't remember much about it being decorated. That said, I emailed them for pricing, they emailed me back. Then I emailed them for an appointment and they never got back to me. It definitely could have slipped through the cracks but that was kind of annoying for me. FI and I did a cake tasting at Gourmet Yummy in Winston (the woman runs it out of her house, I think) and it was really really good! </div><div>
    </div><div>Still haven't decided on a place, though. I just don't want to spend $500 on CAKE!</div>

I'm pretty much an old knottie at this point, but I thought I'd chime in!  I used Manfred - cakes by manfred.  He's technically out of Kernersville, but does the triad area, ,y wedding was in WS.  I had rave reviews and continue to get compliments on my cake.

Just from reading the posts above, Maxie Bs has great cakes, I really like the work that they do.  I was not a fan of Mrs. Pumpkins, I didn't like their icings or cakes.  We actually taste tested at Mrs. Ps and then went to Manfreds the same day.

Pretty much any baker is going to charge some sort of delievery and set up fee.  I actually had the florist do the flowers for my cake, but some bakers will do them for an additional charge.

    GL with your decision!
