Lurkers: Come in here!

Hey there lurkers!

I've noticed a few posts have had some new people in them and they start their post with "I lurk..."

Well, I think you should all post a little more!

Introduce yourself here!

Hello! I guess I'll start... I've been lurking and occasionally posting for a while now. I'm still in school, so it's hard for me to find time to post regularly especially right now since the hard drive on my laptop crashed and is deader than a doornail. Thankfully it's still under warranty and Dell has to replace it for free! Anywho, on to the intro... My FI is in the Marines, we've been engaged for over a year and are planning on getting married next June. I'm in my third year of med school, so we decided to wait until he gets out of his current contract before we got married. FYI, waiting has been the HARDEST thing I've ever done. But it'll be worth it when the time comes! I don't really know what else to say. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Hello I'm Gabrielle, I have been lurking and been getting wonderful advice from the women on this board from lurking here on The Knot. My FI is in the reserves, but does full time work with the reserves. We are getting married in March and i can't wait to marry my best friend ( when we were younger he and his brothers were my only friends). So hello

Hey I'm TaeLynne. I've been engaged for almost a year now. My FI is in the Air Force. We are currently going through our second deployment together. We are getting married at the end of October and PCSing a month later. Everything is kind of crazy right now doing all the last minute wedding stuff without him and packing but it's been a lot of fun.

Hi All!  I’m Liz, 27, and I always enjoy lurking on this board because you girls seem so real and you give it straight :)  My boyfriend of two years (soon-to-be fiancé—we’ve got a  big trip coming up at the end of the month, and while he thinks he’s very sneaky, he’s actually very obvious, like his proposal plans…) is actually a police officer, so we certainly don’t have to deal with the hardships due to moves and deployments like many of you, but there’s no law enforcement board, so I think this is as close as it gets for me.

I work long hours at a consulting firm and he works evening/night shift, so we definitely struggle with schedule coordination and making time to see each other (though we do live together).  I’ll still continue to lurk, but maybe I’ll come out of the woodwork and post once in a while too :)

I've been lurking on and off.

I'm a student in Oklahoma graduating in December with a double major in Nerd, and my FI is in the Navy stationed in Florida. We have been engaged since March and have a wedding "planned" for April. We have already had to move it twice and deployment schedules keep changing. I try to keep a positive outlook but it is hard. Trying to plan a wedding, find a job, and graduate is hard enough throw in the uncertainty of the military and some days I just want to give up on it all and sit by the beach drinking fruity drinks for the rest of my life.

*waves* Hey ladies! I've never posted on this board before, but I do lurk often. My fiancé is in medical school and recently accepted a military scholarship to pay for it. He gets sworn into the Army National Guard in a couple weeks. I've been lurking here ever since he started looking into this, back in the Spring. Even though I grew up just a few miles from a major Air Force base, I don't know the first thing about what it's like to be this involved in the military. Hovering around this board has helped put me at ease, so thanks!

Hello!  FI and I are getting married next June.  We've been engaged since July 2010.  I work full time as an x-ray tech and I go to school full-time online.  I graduate in December with a bachelors degree in radiologic sciences.  I had about a month off school in between semesters and just started up again last week.  I'm having a terrible time getting back into the swing of things and putting wedding planning on the side.  Hopefully I can focus and actually graduate!

FI is full time National Guard and is currently in a non-deployable unit but this might be changing in the next few months.

    Hi!

My SO is currently deployed. We have been together for 2.5 years and we will probably be engaged in 6 months???? :D We have been talking about getting married for a while and have lived together for a year. Time to make it official. Hehehe.

Anyway, I am just freaking myself out about all the costs that come with a wedding. So, I want to sort of get an idea of what I want at my wedding so I can draw up a budget and start saving like crazy in case our parents decide they aren't helping out.

Anyone get married in Annapolis? We want to get married at the Naval Academy's chapel. Any reasonably priced quality vendors out there?

    Mmmmk, end of rando-intro.

Sarahj, don't know all the specifics, since I'm getting married in CT but Annapolis is a spendy area for everything. Get online and start looking at specifics now (local boards around here are good places to start) to see if it's within your budget before you get your heart set on anything.

We are very set on Annapolis. I figured it would be pricey, which is fine, I am actually doing what you suggested right now. I am just not used to spending so much on myself so it is slightly overwhelming to think about. :)

    Where in CT?

Well hello there, I'm Alex 20. I lurk often but this is my first post. My FI is in the Army and has been for four years and he is currently stationed in Germany. We have been together for six years and finally getting married next May. I'm a full time hair stylist I just finished school mid June. Now I'm just working, waiting, and planning. Smile

    Hi there :)
I'm Zelda, (yes like the video game!) and I'm 19 years old. Honestly there's been a lot of talk about getting engaged, but nothing's for sure just yet. If it does happen soon it will probably be a long engagement (until I'm in my senior year) and something really small and simple. My boyfriend's in the army reserves right now and thinking about going active and I just have to say that I'm very proud of him! I know this is something that he's wanted to do for a while and was not suprised when he came home one day and sat me down for "the talk". I'll be hanging around here for a while and would really like to get to know new people and more about the military lifestyle.

Thanks for the information you guys have given me so far, it's been most helpful! :)
