Venue Event Time?

Hi. I'm looking at a venue that I really like, but the only problem I have with it is there is only a 3 hour event time.  They give you 3 hours to have both the ceremony and reception.   You can add extra time if you want, but it is $500 for each additional 30 minutes.  Is it even possible to have a ceremony and reception in 3 hours?  What about 4 hours?  Or should I just scrap the venue and find some place else?

    I'd find another venue. 3 hours is not long enough for a ceremony AND reception.

    I would say it depends on the price of the 3 hours. Does it make sense to add additional time there? Would going somewhere else cost the same in the end? Also, depending on the time of year you are having it you can usually negotiate some extras...such as time....

    We did ceremony, cocktail hour and reception (no dance) in approx 5 1/2 hrs.  That doesn't include the hour before the ceremony that the musicians/officiant etc were there to set up.    Unless you're having a very short ceremony and just cake/punch type reception I'd either look elsewhere or plan to spend the extra to book a few more hours.

    We'll have a 15 minute ceremony and a 4-hour reception -- 1 hour cocktails, toasts, 1 hour stations dinner, first dance and then 2 hours of dancing.

    So, in theory you could do a short ceremony, go straight into dinner and then just have a little bit of dancing, but I think it would feel very truncated. $500 for each additional 30 minutes sounds insane to me -- is this pricing comparable with other vendors in your area?

    I'd look elsewhere, esp. if you want to have a "traditional" ceremony + dinner reception with dancing

    Well this place is ALOT more affordable than venues that are comparible in services.  So I guess that is how they do it.  They can make it more affordable but it will have to be short. 

    I don't even like dancing that much.  I was only having dancing for everyone else really....so maybe 4 hours would be good.   I won't have to dance as much :)

    It sounds to me like the venue simply has an hour based minimum. I imagine most people budget to add additional hours on suited to their needs.

    I think for ceremony + reception, you need the full 5 hours. Just my opinion.
