Getting in Shape

Does the camera really add 10 lbs?

Because I have to say, I look straight gigantic in the pictures from our shower last weekend. And I'm almost positive I don't look like that in real life. I would be horrified if I lost all this weight and still look huge in pictures. I just don't want to get my wedding pictures back and be grossed out.

Does this mean I have to lose 10 more pounds just to look how I look in the mirror, in pictures?

  • lulz,... It's all about the angles.
A skinny girl can look chunky with the wrong camera angle.. Did your photog take your shower picture are they just from friends?
Your photographer knows angles, lighting, etc that make a huge difference.. and he/she will want you to look as beautiful as possible.
If you have any insecurities, like you're most worried about ... a double chin.. chubby arms, a tummy roll, etc.. Let your photographer know! They will do their best to avoid specific angles so that you will love your photos
  • I agree with PP that a lot of it is angles. The camera does add 10lbs, but you can easily erase that by standing at an angle rather than straight on. Your photog will know what to do.
  • What PP said.  I lost a good amount of weight before my wedding and there are some pics of me about a week before my wedding where I looked pretty chunky even though I knew I wasn't.

Good pictures are all about angles, lighting and good posture.  Your photog will know what to do, but just remember that when you are getting your picture taken to keep your posture in mind...remember to stand up straight and keep your shoulders back.

  • Angles baby but curves are good.

  • I'm personally hoping it adds about 30lbs, since some pictures of me look TERRIBLE (lol)

But I do agree with PPs, most of it can be cured with the right angles.

  • Its all about angles. I'm 5'3 about 115 pounds with <15% body fat as a runner. You get the right angle, I'm sitting funny, or my meds have bloated me even I look fluffy. Sometimes the angle makes me look like I need to eat a half dozen sandwhiches with angelina jolie though. Just get a good cameraman who will take lots of photos :).

  • Its all in the angles- a good photog will know what angles to shoot you from, generally straight on and from the ground are not good angles for any body type. Whenever I take pics I always turn my body & head to the side a bit, a little away from the camera. Whatever part of your body is closest to the actual camera will apear larger because of lens distortion & distance issues. So if you have your body turned fully sideways and your upper arm is closest to the camera, it will appear much larger than you might want. Same goes for legs, stomachs, etc.... If you really want you can practice standing poses in the mirror  (makes me feel more confident!)
I wouldn't stress it much, a good photographer should know all this and your wedding pictures will still be gorgeous! (I've seen some images taken from the same photographer, one was a size 2 girl, the other a size 8- however since the photog knew her angles & how the body works she was able to make both girls look the same size.)

  • It's angles. I'm 5'4" and 115 and I still manage to look fat in pictures, yet skinny in others. I wouldn't worry about it. :)
  • A professional photographer knows how to take your picture so that you look fabulous in every one. As others are saying, it will be a lot of angles on your wedding day. Try not to worry about it - you will look so beautiful!
