Who to walk me down?

My real father passed away when I was 13, but we had never really seen each other. My stepdad who raised me from 6 months is not able to walk me down due to health reasons. Would it be okay if my son walked me down? He was the ring barrier but I worry because of issues of him being overwhelmed and acting out. He will be 3, and everywhere we go he holds my hand. Would it be okay to still have him with the little ring pillow (the real rings are with the groomsmen) and hold my hand as we walk? Or do I just pick one or the other?

I think it's perfectly fine to have your son hold your hand and walk with you. However, if you're worried about him acting out, why not have your mother walk with you?

You can walk with your son, or with your mom, or by yourself. Whatever you prefer. I think 3 years old is just on the cusp of maybe being old enough to walk down without a fuss and being disciplined enough to do it properly, but you know your kid's behaviour best to make a reasonable decision. You can always play it by ear - plan to walk down with him but if he's having a bad morning then just walk by yourself.

Why not walk down the aisle with your intended? My church's marriage policies suggested it as a way to signify that you are entering the union not as adversarial parties entering a property contract in which your father is there it ensure you don't run away (where the tradition began in the Middle Ages), but as equal partners entering a joyous union, freely and without shackles. Ha.
