Plus-Sized

3 days to wedding and my dress is too tight.

I bought my dress from a plus size shop.  It took longer to get here than expected.  I finally got it two weeks ago and went to get it altered because the top was too big.  I went to pick it up today at the seamstress and it is way too tight.  Fears of the zipper breaking or some other disaster keep going on in my mind.  The seamstress said she let it out another couple inches but I feel so uncomfortable in my gown.  I am getting married and really don't know what to do.  The lady at the bridal shop said I must have gained wieght...I promise I have been good and found it so offenseive that the blame is being shifted to me when the seamstress seem to have made a mistake.    I am freaking out.

  • Is there room enough to let it out a little bit more, I know time is really tight but it doesn't hurt to ask.   Also, are you wearing spanx or a corset underneath?  The right under garments can suck you in another inch but still be comfortable enough.   Try staying away from any salty foods for the next few days and drink lots of water to flush your system.  Salt tends to bloat you very quickly.

  • deep breath and relax - not sure about your dress but most wedding dresses are made with a larger seam allowance then a standard dress & some seamstresses are mirical workers... personally i would stay away from salt & carbs, get plently of sleep and let them have a chance to correct the issue - hugs it will be ok

  • This sounds like your seamstress fault. They should be able to let it out.  Ask what they did with the extra material just in case.

And, I agree with PP stay away from salt and carbs!  And drink plenty of water.  I would also check in to using something like Spanx.  Good Luck!

  • What a nightmare and even worse when they blamed you. There has to be a way for them to let it out. Also, i'm with both PP's on cutting down on carb and salt; however, you don't want to worry on your day that your zipper will pop. Good luck!

We just got back from honeymoon.  I drank tons of water the three days before, stayed away from salt and carbs like you all told me to do.  With the help of a really tight corset bra, and spanx I got into my dress.  It was tight but it looked good.  All night I was hot and not comfortable, but the dress held.  The first look of the pics I think it looks good.  Thank you all for you kind words of support.  My wedding turned out amazing in 107 degree heat and all the last minute challenges that I can laugh about now.  My daughter is an attorney, and is sending a demand letter of monies paid for the steamstress who got carried away.  She cut the dress so it could not be let out...the stress of it all caused me to spend those three days in tears.  But overall, marrying my best friend was the most important thing.  I waited all my life to find this special man....and am so happy.
  • I'm so glad it worked out... Congrats!!!!

  • wonderful ending!!!
