Re: Throwbacks!!!

  • edited December 2011

I am very sleepy but I think it's because of my lack of coffee this morning..GRRR. I'm at work so I have very little pictures other than what is on my old Myspace, HAHA

    1. TV shows- PeeWee's Playhouse when I was really young... At 12, it was probably The Real World when I'd sneak to watch MTV. Any show on SNICK. We would get pupcorn and watch Are You Afraid of the Dark every Saturday night

    2. Movies- Titanic. I was obsessed! I bought the VHS the day it came out and watched it who knows how many times. Clifford was a big one too. We would watch it all the time and even had a Stephen Club but never had an actual dinosaur mascot (I don't think)

    3. Music- NSync, BSB, and The Spice Girls! I think the Spice Girls are the only ones I would go see in concert now (See Below)

    4. Movie stars- Leonardo DiCaprio, JTT, the usual handsome boys. ALso, I always liked Danielle Fishel from Boy Meets World.

    5. Fashion Statements-  Butterfly clips. I would twist my bangs back and have about 10 in my hair..I was in 6th grade and started doing that then the senior girls started doing it so I felt cool.

    6. Lingo/Vocab- I can't think of anything too awesome...Wait, awesome is one, lol

    7. Books- Baby Sitters Club!! Goosebumps- The TV was pretty awesome also.

    8. Food- Still one of my favorite's Grilled Cheese. When i was really young, I thought it was a "girl cheese" and I remember seeing a boy eating one in Target and it upset/confused the crap out of me.
Warheads- For some reason, I would buy them at 7-11 and sell them for profit. I did pretty well until my main client choked on one. That basically ruined my entire business.

    9. Activities- Playing video games. My BFF and I were OBSESSED with Harvest Moon and we would play that and Mario all the time. She had a paper route and afterwards we'd walk to the coney island down the street for grilled cheese and chicken & rice soup..yummo.

    10. Technology- Basically any Nintendo product, Regular Nintendo, The Original GameBoy (not advanced, not colored, gray and just plain awesome), Super NES, and of course my personal favorite, N64..in lime green, or was it pink? I know my BFF had one and I had another. I might have to pull that bad boy out one day.

    1. TV shows
Clarissa Explains it All, Hey Dude, Salute Your Shorts, Rugrats, Punky Bruster (but that may have been a few years earlier).

    2. Movies
Shakespeare in Love - I was majorly into theater at this point, and LOVED all things Shakespeare!  And definitely Ever After... that was my absolute favorite for years!  I still will watch it anytime.

    3. Music
Jewel and Alanis Morssette - I remember running and sliding down the Slip 'n Slide to "You were Meant for Me" and "JaggedLittle Pill"

    4. Movie stars
I think this was still my Devin Sawa phase.  He was a cutie!

    5. Fashion Statements
A really ugly purple jumpsuit, tie dye clothing, and stretch pants.  I never wore jeans at all until age 16 - I hated buttoning them!

    6. Lingo/Vocab
Cool, whatev, stuff - words my mother tried to break me of saying!

    7. Books
Boxcar Children, Babysitters Club, Anne of Green Gables, Sweet Valley High.  I read sooooo much!  Went to the library at least once a week, and always took out at least 5 books.

    8. Food
Penny candy from the corner store.  And gummy peaches - yum!  And WarHeads.

    9. Activities
I rode bikes a lot.  This was the summer my parents first let me ride around the neighborhood, and I used to pack little 'picnics' (usually an ice pop) and ride down to these rocks that were at the end of a street near mine.  I'd sit there by myself and eat my snack and feel super grown up!

    10. Technology

I got my first CD player for my 12th birthday.  I loved Sega and Nintendo 64, but wasn't allowed to play them much.  I think we also had Game Boys around this time.

For some reason this thread has given me a HUGE urge to watch the Melissa Joan Hart Sabrina the Teenage Witch made for TV movie under a blanket with gummi peaches.

OK - now that I'm really feeling old...you're making me think way too far back - I was 12 about 24 years ago, so most of my answers I'd say are probably for the 8-12 age range, at least that I can remember...

    1. TV shows:
Silver Spoons, Different Strokes, Facts of Life, Square Pegs
    2. Movies:
most of the movies I watched were "old" Disney movies...Dirty Dancing came out when I was 12 or 13 and it's been one of my favorites since
    3. Music:
the only thing that comes to mind is getting my Cyndi Lauper record somewhere in this time frame and then I got a cassette player around this time, too, and I was so excited about my cassette player
    4. Movie stars:
The Coreys (Haim & Feldman), Molly Ringwald, Matthew Broderick, Sean & McKenzie Astin
    5. Fashion Statements:
parachute pants, mini skirts, leg warmers, folding/rolling the cuffs of jeans
    6. Lingo/Vocab:
"totally", "gag me with a spoon", "dude", "dudette"
    7. Books:
anything Judy Blume, The babysitters club, Sweet Valley High, Anne of Green Gables
    8. Food:
a lot of the same things I like now - mac & cheese, mashed potatoes, chicken fingers; my friends and I would ride our bikes to 7-11 and get nerds or slurpees a lot
    9. Activities:
talking on the phone, listening to records with my friends, riding bikes, boys (it always seemed like everyone was "going steady" at lunchtime and by the end of school they'd be broken up); during lunch/recess we'd all gather around and watch the boys breakdance
    10. Technology:
We got this new thing called cable around this time; we also got one of those new microwave things that my mom was so excited about; I was one of the 1st of all my friends to not only get a phone, but my own line when I was 12 (yeah, cell phones weren't even being thought of at this point); we had an Intellivision game system

    1. TV shows
At age 12, there was still TGIF. My neighbor across the street would get together and bake chocolate chip cookies every Friday night while we watched it on a little antennaed b&w tv. We'd eat however many we could stomach, and give the rest to her mom to take to the church or hospice.

This was also the period of time when Unsolved Mysteries was on every Saturday night. My dad would make me Kraft Mac & Cheese and we would watch Unsolved Mysteries together. It was the best.

I was big on Saved by the Bell, Clarissa Knows All, Are You Afraid of the Dark, and Home Improvement back then, too.

    2. Movies
Little Women, Clueless, and Ever After were big ones for me. I would watch the VHS over and over. And, of course, Jaws. My obsession with killer animal movies was only in the baby stages at that point.

    3. Music
12 is right around when I discovered DMB (have loved them ever since). I also listened to a lot of Hootie & The Blowfish, Collective Soul, Alanis Morrisette, Goo Goo Dolls, etc.

    4. Movie stars
My main hearthrobs at that point were Leonardo DiCaprio, Christian Bale (was in lurve with him after Little Women) and Paul Rudd.

    5. Fashion Statements
I was a jeans and sweater girl. I had a sweater in every friggin color. This was the year I had finally grown my hair out and wore it straight, but I still had braces and glasses.

    6. Lingo/Vocab
Whatever was a big one. I never used as if or talk to the hand, but those were big from what I can remember.

    7. Books
My favorites at the time were Little Women, Romiette & Julio (yes, actual title), and the RL Stine books (I think I've read every single one written up until about 1997). I read some of the Babysitters Club and Sweet Valley High books too.

    8. Food
My entire diet back then pretty much consisted of Kraft Mac & Cheese, buttered noodles, and grilled cheese. That was it. Damn picky eater back in the day.

    9. Activities
I was a dancer for 16 years, and this was about the time I had to pull out of ballet and go strictly with jazz/modern because I was getting arthritis in my knees. I also sang in the choir at school, and was going through my confirmation classes at my church back home.

    10. Technology
All I remember is Oregon Trail. That game kicked ass. I still play it now and then (yes, I did find the CD game on e-bay).

Oh my gosh...1992. I don't remember it that well, but I'll take a stab. This is probably more of a range of years mushed together.

    1. TV shows
Probably Saved By the Bell. I also used to tape record reruns of Moonlighting, Remington Steele, and Scarecrow & Mrs. King.

    2. Movies
Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Beauty & the Beast. (Yes, the first two weren't exactly new at the time, but I liked them.)

    3. Music
    Mariah Carey and Gloria Estefan.

    4. Movie stars
Don't remember. I still don't really have favorites.

    5. Fashion Statements
CrazyShirts, biker shorts, and a pink dress with black polkadots and a two-tiered skirt. Oh, and LA Gear sneakers! With two colors of laces.

    6. Lingo/Vocab
    Psych!

    7. Books
I may have still been reading Baby Sitters Club and Nancy Drew. I was probably also getting into my Victoria Holt phase.

    8. Food
I discovered Sour Patch Kids and they were awesome. They used to seem so super sour to me. Also Nerds and Pop Rocks.

    9. Activities
Children's theatre. I was in Fiddler on the Roof.

    10. Technology
I had a 286 PC at that point (hand me down from my dad). It had an orange monochrome monitor and a 28k modem. I used to play a lot of Where in Europe is Carmen SanDiego and hang out on the Prodigy bulletin boards.
