Dress shopping has me on the verge of tears

I need help and I hope someone can give me some. My wedding is scheduled for June 25. According to everyone I talk to I should have found and ordered my dress MONTHS ago. Ok well I hate shopping and shopping for this dress is making me think I want to wear jeans down the aisle. I am not a prissy girl and have only been caught in a dress maybe three times in the past 20 years. But since I am getting married I thought it would be the perfect time to knock everyone dead and wear a SEXY dress. I am currently in a size 16-18 which in wedding dresses translates to about a 20 or so. All these numbers in the fashion world translate to one thing... plus size clothing. I am working on losing weight, but I haven't reached my goal yet and since I have to get a dress now not later I am having to try on "plus size" dressees. I have I decided I want a dress with the back out, and here in lies my problem. I can't find one store that carries a backless sample in my size. All the stores are quick to tell me that I can order the dress, but I would be a fool to spend that kind of money on a dress that I have never tried on. I have even started looking at evening/prom gowns but have had no luck finding one in my size to try on. Does anyone know of a shop that carries any backless samples in an 18 or up that I may be able to try on? The links to some of the styles I like are below.

It doesn't necessarily have to be a Maggie Sottero or an Allure gown, I just want to try on a backless dress so I can make sure I will look good in it before I fork over more than I have ever spent on one outfit for ONE DAY. If anyone can suggest a shop they think could help me I would be so appreciative. I would hate to be the only person at my wedding wearing jeans. Laughing

I am terribly sorry to hear about this. Planning a wedding is very stressful. People have also told me the same thing, but I just purchased my gown about two weeks ago, and my wedding date is May 29, 2011. Don't stress about that. You should definitely try Alfred Angelo, located in Dunwoody. Their dresses are gorgeous and they even have plus size manikins. I absolutely love the fact that they do not just have slim manikins. Brides come in all shapes and sizes, and I believe Alfred Angelo will help you. They have plenty of strapless dresses for plus size brides. If you decide to check them out, you should work with Tarsha. They are all very sweet, but Tarsha helped me and gave me the special attention I needed. Tell her Amber sent ya!!!! Smile, you will look beautiful!!!

    @ jenn601 I went to David's they didn't have anything I liked
;-( The lady sounded so hurt when I told her that there was nothing in the store that interested me in any way shape or form. LOL I guess they believe their dresses are the best.

@ studiochick2010 I called alfred angelo about a couple of dresses I was interested in and of course they didn't have them in my size to try on. Dunwoody is a log way from my house, but I guess I will have to make the appointment and take the drive. I am ill with wasting my gas every weekend to look for a phantom dress.

Everyone keeps telling me they have it in a 10 or an 8. Well if I was one of those sizes I would be all over it. But I'm not and that is the problem I am having. I swear after this disaster I should open a bridal shop that ONLY sells plus size gowns and has more than just the regular run of the mill dresses. I am trying really hard not to turn bridezilla on everyone, but now I understand why women do it. SMH

Have you tried Bridal Sense in Sandy Springs?  They have several plus-size dresses in the "Sale Gowns" section of the web site.  They might not be exactly what you're looking for, but if they have them in the store (I think they do have the sale gowns there) and they're similar you might get an idea of what they'd look like on your body type and then you could go from there.  HTH!

Maybe you could try on some other styles that are not backless.  You might fall in love, you never know.

This is just an opinion but I see a wedding day as the day the bride looks classy, not necessarily sexy.

belletop, normally I would agree with you on the classy thing but this is my second marriage and I am getting married in Vegas in the middle of the summer, outside. I will need something light so I don't pass out. and since I am having a different wedding I am looking for a different feel. I havent passed up trying on other gowns but I just haven't found "the one." Thanks for your advice I appreciate it.

Don't know where you live but there is a store in Buford called Affordable Bridal and they have sizes 0-26 in the store.  There are LOTS of dresses to choose from in all sizes.  They are really laid back and very informal, but their prices and selection is GREAT!!!!

There's a place called Anya Bridal - it's a warehouse feel, so don't expect to be pampered, but it has plus size dresses on the rack and some are very beautiful. It's not your "Kleinfeld-type" experience but hey, it might have the dress you are envisioning.

As far as DB or Alfred Angelo, did you just go to one store? It could just be that store's selection that you don't like. I am around your size and DID find my dress at David's Bridal and it's not your typical "big girl dress." I ordered it a few weeks ago and was told it will be in May 1. Just to help you calm down about not finding it yet and your wedding being in June.

I just bought my dress from Anya bridal off of Fulton Industrial.  They are awesome!!!!!  All of their dresses are 30% if you buy off the rack.  Which they have ALOT!!!  If you have to order your size the dress is full price.  I went for the first time Saturday thinking that I would not find a dress and I DID and brought it HOME!!!  love love THIS PLACE.

    Hey Fellow Bride!
I know this may seem last minute, but this is what I am doing...I'm going to go to Running Of the Brides. Check out their website to read what all it is, but you have a chance to find $1,000 dollar dresses for $200-800 dollars! I know two dresses I love so if I could go and find one there it's awesome. It has nothing to do with running, it's just a store that has a bridal gown sale once a year. Hope this helps! Charme bridal has affordable dresses. It's near buford. Hope thie helps. What else do you have to plan still with your wedding? Do you have a venue yet?

Try Bride Beautiful in Dunwoody. They are incredibly nice. They typically carry larger floor model sizes. They also can rush a lot of the Maggie Sottero dresses. Mine arrived in a MONTH! Please don't get stressed. The dress shold be such a great part of the experience. You should feel amazing and beautiful in w/e you wear no matter what size. Remember that your future husband proposed to you the way you are. You could probably wear a potato sack and he'd still love you. I know they will be able to help you there. They have an amazing and friendly staff. :-) Good luck and I know you'll look amazing!!!
