No Inner Envelope

We are not going to be using an inner envelope.  On the outer envelope we're planning on addressing as such
Mr. and Mrs. Smith or The Smith Family or Mr. Jack Smith and Ms. Jane Jones

For guest situations, is it ok to address as follows when we don't know the guests name?
Mr. John Smith and Guest

Thanks

Don't do "family" though.  Some people interpret that very loosely and you could end up in an awkward situation of telling someone that their grandmother/dad/cousin isn't invited.

  • I didn't do an inner envelope either.  I did Mr. and Mrs. John Smith (even though it bothered me that the woman wasn't included on there, but everyone convinced me it was right), for I only invited immediate family with children so that was Mr. and Mrs. John Smith then on the next line Kid 1 and Kid 2, and for people that were not seeing anyone (we invited every adult with a guest), we did Mr. John Smith and Guest. For those that were, but aren't married, we did Mr. John Smith and Ms. Jane Doe.  I know you are not supposed to use AND if they are not married, but it was just easier for us! (And I truely don't think anyone not currently planning a wedding would ever notice or care!)
