How far can I make my guests drive?

Though it's only a 30min drive between our church and our hopeful reception site, the majority of the family and friends would be facing a 45-60min drive home.

Both church & reception are located close to the major freeways around the Milwaukee area, but should I look for something more centrally located for the entire guest list?

    A 30 minute drive to the reception is fine.  A 45 - 60 min drive home is what it is.  I wouldn't really be bothered by it, but I can't speak for everyone.

    IMO, max drive time would be 45 minutes top, hopefully less

    The drive time from home to the wedding and back is what it is.  You can't change where people live.  The drive between ceremony and reception, imo, should be 30 min or less - and in my area, I expect it to be more like 15 since there are so many reception options.

    If you invited me to your wedding and I only had to drive 30 minutes there and then 60 minutes home, it'd be a little odd, but whatever. The one that killed me was when I drove 30 minutes north to a wedding, then turned around and drove another 45 south for the reception. I actually went by my house!

    I don't think the time in between is bad, or the drive home.  That is to me though.  Some of the guests with children or the older guests might leave a little earlier.  If that is where you want to have it go for it.

    As long as the drive between ceremony and reception is less than about 30 minutes I think you're fine and the drive home at the end of the night is what it will be.

    You're fine.  My family would consider yours lucky - they'll be driving from 4 hours away.  Some of my FI's family will have to fly from Utah to PA if they decide to attend.  You can't always choose your venues based on where your family lives, and shouldn't have to.  If they don't want to drive afterwards, they can rent a hotel.

    Perhaps find a hotel and block some rooms so that those that think it is far/may not want or be able to drive after drinking have a place nearby to sleep.

    Other than that - I agree with the ladies that say that you can't help where people live :)

    Under an hour is nothing. Our wedding is in the middle of nowhere and everyone has a minimum of one hour to drive to the ceremony (except my fiance's grandparents - it's in their barnyard) and then a ten minute drive to the nearest community hall. My fiance's best man will be driving 23 hours home after the wedding (before it's about 3 hours from our college town). Maybe things are different in Western & Northern Canada? Most people are about 2-3 hours away that are coming to our wedding (translates to over 160 km (100 miles)).
