Abbey Catering

Hi, I'm new to wedding planning and this board, so I apologize if this is a repeat post.  Has anyone used Abbey Catering?  Any thoughts or concerns or anything I need to be aware of?  The reviews on yelp are great.  How do they compare to other San Diego caterers on a cost and service scale, understanding that you pay for good service?   San Diego will be a destination wedding for us.  Thanks everyone.

We are using Abbey Catering for our June 2010 wedding. Their food is outstanding, and the price is very reasonable compared to others we looked into. Friendly and helpful.

I was not a big fan of Abbey Catering.  Their food is AMAZING, but we were not impressed with the staff at our tasting.  My fiance put it simple..."it was like listening to a car salesman."  They asked if I had any questions and then did not listen to any of the questions I had, it was like they did not care at all about what I wanted.  So I just let them talk, give their "presentation", and couldn't wait until the tasting was over.  They did not know which venue my wedding was going to be at, so they were giving us all of these wonderful ideas of things they could do at the reception but most of the ideas would not be allowed at my venue or it would be an extra cost.  Some of the questions my mother asked they did not have an answer for, and they asked me 3 times what my wedding colors would be.  They did not have any pictures or examples of weddings they had done at my venue, but yet they were a preferred vendor.  Their pricing is reasonable and like I said the food was AMAZING, but I could not imagine working with these people for 8 more months when they were not in tune with my wedding at the tasting.  The consultant was very frank, he said that he was just there to get us to sign a contract that day and get us to write a good review about them on yelp.

I was considering them for our wedding but decided no because:

    1) Kate was VERY pushy -- my wedding coordinator at the venue said she told her to "control her bride" when I couldn't tell her exactly what dishes we wanted
    2) Kate told us that she didn't want us tasting if we were "shopping around" -- not sure how else you can decide on a caterer!
    3) They kept wanting us to do an all-inclusive package when we already had most of our services and, again, Kate kept pushing about, did I need this?  How about that?  Our vendors are better; etc.
