When to Send Save the Dates?

Hey everyone,
I know this is probably a very basic question, but when are you supposed to send Save the Dates? It's little bit of a different situation because it's for our vow renewal not our wedding, but we didn't get the wedding we wanted the first time due to outside circumstances making us have to move the date up, and we are treating this vow renewal as the wedding we WOULD have had if we had been able to stick with our original plan! (Everyone knows we are married and it is a vow renewal, we are not trying to mislead our friends and family that way.)

    Don't send them.  They're optional for a wedding anyway and so, I think, completely unnecessary for a vow renewal.

    Thank you for your reply but since the reason we're having a vow renewal is so we can celebrate with our out of town family and friends we are opting to send them. Also it's near the holidays so we want those who have to make travel arrangements to know in advance.

    I'm sending mine early as well since our wedding is labor day weekend.  We'll probably send ours between august and september.  That way anyone can make travel arrangements if they need to.

    I sent ours out at six months- we're getting married on a weekday and if I'd skipped the STDs, people would have been even more surprised and unlikely to be able to come if I send the invites two months out.
